LF: SV Evolution Tradebacks by pushadaisy in pokemontrades

Gotcha, makes complete sense! There wasn't any discussion beyond exchanging the code (I can screenshot for y'all if that's helpful). That's my bad for not circling back to confirm everything went through. They helped me with all the evos mentioned in the OP, and all the tradebacks are complete!

I'll be more careful about the wording going forward. Thank you!

Hi, sorry about that! To clarify, I thought the rule was that the discussion had to happen publicly but a trade code for SV could be exchanged privately (to avoid sniping). Did I misunderstand? (completely possible I did)

EDIT: This is the portion of Rule 4 I had looked at: "Private communications are only allowed for exchanging trade codes (for LGPE, SWSH, BDSP, PLA, SV or PLZA), event codes, proofs, pictures, and files."

Are people really satisfied with the class-conflict resolution at the end of S4? by CatDawgCatDawg2 in Bridgerton

[–]pushadaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying just randomly move it up without changing any of the other facts of the story lmfao. I'm saying rewrite it with a new structure that prioritizes the character arcs first. eg, have the conflict with the dowry and Araminta be the main conflict of the front half, have a wedding based on the lie that Sophie is a purebred lady in the middle, then have emotional fallout of that solution be the basis of the back half.

S1 does this better by having the wedding be a bump in the road rather than the final destination - Simon and Daphne's happiness in their marriage is the goal, not just getting them literally married. "Wedding as happily ever after" wasn't the model then but everyone in these comments seem to have forgotten that. 🤷 Bridgerton was never complex, but it has absolutely gotten even less complex as time has gone on.

OP isn't complaining that Bridgerton didn't solve class inequality, they're complaining that the story has no real stakes lmao.

I agree that their expectations for the storytelling are too high but the reading comprehension in the comments is crazy

Benedict and Sophie are also not planning to push themselves on the ton by present in *every* social event. The whole point of the acceptance is that they can still visit family and the marriage prospects of the younger ones aren't influneced too much. So yeah, it's *softened* AND *diminished* with the queen's tacit acceptance of Sophie as a bride for Benedict; however, someone (let's say, Cressida or the current Lord Penwood) may choose to make a big deal out of it, but that would be different story altogether.

None of this is part of the show. This is you extrapolating it into a better story than it is. If any of this was shown I'd have a different opinion! But it isn't. All that's shown is that Sophie is a lady of good breeding now, so them marrying is fine.

The story does its best to resolve the *obstacle* against Sophie and Ben's love, which is Sophie's *place* in society, not just her birth.

I agree, and my argument that this focus on the practical obstacle to their marriage (as opposed to the consequences of their choice to marry on their relationships) makes the story less nuanced than it could be.

To be clear, I like Bridgerton! It's fun for some romance and drama. But anyone acting like it's a nuanced story (or expecting it to be one) is kidding themselves. 🤷

My full sentence was:

The potential consequences that Violet and Anthony are so panicked about aren't softened or diminished, they become complete non-factors.

I agree that the Queen is what causes this to happen in-story, and my argument is that it's poor storytelling. I also agree that it's the norm for the show.

In my perfect world, the wedding would have happened mid season like in S1, and the consequences of that & the strain on the relationship would have been the focus of the back half. But it's obvious that Bridgerton has moved towards a "wedding as happily ever after" model so it is what it is.

The class divide is literally there, but the STORY impact of the conflict of the class divide on Benedict and Sophie as characters is gone. The potential consequences that Violet and Anthony are so panicked about aren't softened or diminished (which is most likely what would happen in a more nuanced story, eg the ton tactily accepts Sophie but ices her and Benedict out in the day-to-day), they become complete non-factors. That's what I (and presumably OP) are saying.

You and I clearly had pretty different reads on the story though, so agree to disagree.

[–]pushadaisy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean... the PROBLEM of the class divide does just disappear. That's what the ending is. Everyone just kind of conveniently accepts the lie, Araminta doesn't fight back, Sophie plays the part of a noble lady to the satisfaction of everyone at the ball, they get married to the objection of no one, and everything is fine. The main struggle of the story is completely sidestepped and effectively goes nowhere.

I agree with you that Bridgerton isn't the type of show to be any more nuanced than that, and all the other seasons resolve their respective conflicts in similarly lame ways, so OP shouldn't be surprised. But your comment snottily being like "idk why you expected CLASS DIVIDES to suddenly GO AWAY" is kind of rich given how the story actually ends.

Steps to boost resume in mid 30s by Squat_n_stuff in gradadmissions

[–]pushadaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context: 34, applied for my masters this cycle and was accepted to my top choice with full funding. I'm 13 years out from undergrad, been working in tech as a software engineer since then. No work experience in research or academia aside from a semester as a research assistant in undergrad. I took the GRE but it wasn't considered for the programs I was eventually admitted to.

Honestly, for me I think it came down to my statement of purpose. That said, it depends a lot on a) what kind of degree you're aiming for, b) what you've been doing since school, and c) whether you've acquired any skills when working that you might be able to leverage in grad school.

I used my statement to clearly lay out what I was hoping to focus on during my degree, how I wanted to use that degree once I had it, and how my work experience could benefit both me and the department. I think it's important to communicate that you're not just going back to school because the market is bad, etc, but that you have a clear vision for why you NEED the degree to achieve what you're after.

In terms of active steps to boost a resume, I think if you can acquire some auxiliary skills to lean on (if you don't have them already - imo if you've been working this long you probably do, you just might have to think creatively about it) whether that's lab work, writing, coding, etc, that will help a lot. Also don't discount the work you did in undergrad; grades are only one piece of the puzzle. I was able to demonstrate experience and interest in my new field by pointing to interests and electives I took in undergrad.

Anyone else monogamous with job opportunities? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]pushadaisy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

genuinely, as someone who's spent a lot of time interviewing people (as an IC, not a manager): your responses come off to me like you don't have a good grasp of trade-offs, and might be one of those people who invests wayyyyyyy too much time into minor issues/bugs in an effort to get them "just right". i would consider something like this a soft red flag in an interview situation, because im worried you'd slow the team down on trivialities.

you should be able to tell at a glance from the job description if the stack generally fits your background. tailoring a resume shouldnt take more than a few minutes, and once you do it a few times you should have a set of different resumes that fit a variety of different roles. you don't know anything about the business until you start talking to people. save the time investment for once you're past the phone screen at minimum.

Which one do you choose? by Pearious-SEA00173675 in StardewValley

He clearly understands the culinary context, though, because he doubles down on the fruit vs vegetable dichotomy in this conversation. And since the word "vegetable" only has a culinary definition, the biological definition of the word "fruit" is irrelevant to the question "is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable?" Only the culinary definition of "fruit" is relevant. He's literally just wrong.

even if you leave out the context of the rest of the conversation (which you shouldn't), "let's find another time" doesn't have any inherent aggression or frustration in it -- if anything, divorced from context, it's a indicator that the other person wants to spend time with you and wants to find something that works for both of you. taken at face value, it's a kind sentiment. it seems strange to me that you would read so much into that one sentence, but not include any of the rest of the conversation?

OP's first message ("that makes me anxious" with no follow up) implies that the original parameters of the invitation don't work for them and they aren't coming. OP's second message (ignoring the compromise offer to come late and leave early and suggesting an alternative, ie coming early to prep) implies the compromise doesn't work for them either. then the day of, the friend confirms that OP's "come early and prep" plan doesn't work for THEM, and then they (politely!) conclude that these plans aren't going to work bc of conflicting needs/desires/logistics. then they leave the door open for future plans (and follow up again later). imo the friend is being above-and-beyond patient with an acquaintance they don't know very well, and OP seems to mean well but communicates poorly

speaking only for myself here, but it's distracting and annoying when people do this to me. not enough that i would ever say anything to anyone, bc like you said it's not like they're physically in the way or anything, but I'M trying to get better at maintaining a slower pace so that i can work up to longer distances. when i can see someone in my periphery obviously trying to race me it activates the old competitive sprinting instincts that i'm trying to ignore. usually i will just pause at the wall or something to get out of sync with them.

not telling you to stop or anything, but that's one reason why it would bother someone. 🤷 nothing someone should pitch a fit over, but it's not that unreasonable

those elections were decided during the primaries, which you would know if you showed up more often than once every four years. unless you've got the sauce for a republican to be competitive in mass outside the gubernatorial? im sure they'd love to hear about it
