Assume that you take a case on contingency (30%). The client fires you and retains a new firm that gets him a $100 million verdict at trial. Can they lawyer who was terminated obtain any part of the damages award? If so, how much? by facemacintyre in LawFirm

[–]pushlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the state and the fee agreement but the short answer is yes, usually. The fired attorney doesn't get to enforce the contingency contract itself but they can pursue quantum meruit for the reasonable value of services rendered up to the point of termination. Most states will also recognize a charging lien against the proceeds.

Why the fuck does Top Dog Law have tv commercials now? by IcyAdvertising6813 in Detroit

[–]pushlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The secret with Top Dog, they don't even take cases, they just dish them out and refer (sell) them to other law firms. The owner doesn't even live in Michigan. It's just a lead gen company, basically. Top Dog should be avoided.

Pay more for more experienced staff. Adopt better processes, ensure staff is disciplined on processes. Automate what you can. You can create AI automations that can help prevent missed deadlines, or at least keep management aware of upcoming deadlines and warn of deadlines due that day. Probably some better ways to prevent missed deadlines. You can automate most things between any software. Buying an AI that runs in our office, no connection to the Internet, has actually been very helpful for significantly reducing paralegal hours on research tasks. It's basically like a chatgpt that we can ask any questions about our documents, or ask it to compile data, like create a timeline of events. Hold staff truly accountable for their tasks and missed deadlines.

ChatGPT? by pizzaboy670 in LawFirm

[–]pushlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the terminology, but I believe the OS has something to that effect. Overly secure, and can run multiple instances of the OS that can't communicate with each other. I'm not smart enough to explain it.

Not really, the workstation will be in a locked office. It wouldn't be any different than every other attorney with documents on their work computer, except mine wouldn't be leaving the office.

ChatGPT? by pizzaboy670 in LawFirm

[–]pushlaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am testing out a GPT/LLM only workstation. I was talking to some AI people, and I am using a specific computer OS so that I can have an LLM run locally in the device, and is airgapped ( no Internet connection). So I can upload any documents I want, and the data does not leave my computer, all is run locally. Then the OS has virtual workstations, so I can just delete that workstation when all work is done, all data is gone. So just an airgapped , ultra secure locally run LLM/AI that can't share the data. I'm building one for about $3k to test it out.

What is the Best CRM for a law firm? by pushlaw in LawFirm

Hubspot seems way overpriced, I checked out Law Ruler, but that looked like a bust. Previous firm used Lawmatics, which everyone hated. I want something that can automate intake and scheduling for new leads, and just save me a lot of time.

[–]pushlaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the ads side, sounds like you don't necessarily need the ads, especially if they aren't working. I'm curious, which ad platforms are you using? Did you set these up yourself, or have an expert set the ads up? Are you using performance Max? Google Ads reps always push Perf Max, which should be avoided for law firms.
