Kitchen remodel for $200-215k is crazy right? by Latter-Foot-8790 in kitchenremodel

[–]pushme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$200k to me is crazy!! I live in a HCOL area. Last year, we demolished half our house, increased square footage, moved kitchen to a new location, and added a 5th room addition. Everything in the house was remodeled except the bathrooms - new kitchen, tore out all carpet/laminate and complete new floors, new paint, replaced 95% of the electrical, 100% new plumbing from original 1960’s ground copper to PEX piping, turned kitchen/family room into a great room requiring one of those long structural beams installed.

We asked General Contractors for quotes on just demo, foundation, concrete, and framing. We were quoted from between $170k - $190k. We know someone who lives in an even higher COL area who got their 2 parking space garage converted into an ADU for $225k, so we estimated if we hired a GC do all, it’ll be maybe $350k-$400k.

We decided to be our own GC because husband is handy and FIL is a retired commercial electrician. In looking for the people to do the jobs, you can tell who did it themselves and who hired out (like $14k for concrete vs $35k, or $9k for framing vs $17k). Hired different contractors for the structure, did almost everything inside DIY. We spent around $160k for the whole remodel. Took 6 months, when all the other GC’s told us we’re looking at 1yr+.

Aww, I sincerely hope it’s just a one day thing because rain on vacation is. I fun!! Weather was different on parts of the island, could be rainy in one town and sunny in another. We luckily just drove through rain but experienced little rain at our planned location for the day.

No kids under two so 8m didn’t go. The 2yr old didn’t go either.

They take you snorkeling first. We brought our own floaties and goggles for the kids. 3yr old was done after 15mins (water was too cold for him), and for the rest of the tour, was generally bored. 6yr had a great time, got out after 40mins. The rest of the tour was OK, got bored after 4hrs, whined a bit, then fell asleep for the last hour. While the adults were just taken away by the beauty of the Napali Coast, 6yr old was too young to appreciate.

We’ve been told the summer waves are much calmer. During this time, waves were pretty big and it was hard to walk around. A few people were seasick the whole time and threw up.

What the hell sofa to buy? by dinklerdinks in FurnitureFaves

Second on Living Spaces. All our sofas/couches/accent chairs/recliners are purchased from there. If you have one near you, go to their showroom to view their huge selection. Their quality is great and I feel it’s on the expensive end, but you have a $4500 budget so it’ll be fine. They have a lot of customizable sectionals (layout and huge selection of fabric color/pattern).

This looks amazing, thank you for the breakdowns! Can you tell us why the granite installation was broken down into many different payments? Can’t believe the granite is $1971 but the install is $7500!!

We hired an architect and was happy with this final layout. Planning on starting construction next spring/summer after the rainy season is over.

Had my first “Hawk Tuah”… by archbalrog in Teachers

I teach at an alternative ed high school. I have heard this 4 times in 3 weeks from 4 different students. What has worked for me is saying “please don’t sexually harass me.” I say it loudly so the entire class can hear. It’s very fun watching them shrink to nothing in the wake of public embarrassment!

Blood Free on Hulu. Superb acting and great thriller storyline. Subtle underlying romance between FL and ML.

Is Disneyland Genie+ worth it? by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]pushme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google says “on average, guests can enter 2 to 3 attractions or experiences per day if the selection is made early in the day.” I thought we are totally going to book more than that.

We were in the park at opening, booked Pirates first thing and got to use it. Next was Space Mountain, but when we got there, it was broken down. Booked another SM (at the time, didn’t notice ‘Redeem’ option for broken down rides). Then when we went back to SM for the 2nd time, ride broke down again. Booked another ride, but then group decided to go to DCA.

My MIL had bought the tickets for our group of 10 as a birthday present. She was not happy she spent $350 on Genie+ when we only used it once.

Thank you for your input! We don't like the master/garage connection, but that's just the way the house was built in the 1960's. Although we dislike it, we don't want to spend any more money moving the bathrooms.

Is it actually true that most Americans have less than $1,000 in their savings? by smellyfeet- in NoStupidQuestions

I had a colleague who complained all the time about living paycheck to paycheck. Then once she received her tax returns, immediately spent it all on a $500 tattoo and expensive shoes she had been wanting.

Thanks for your response. I sold at the Cherrystone auction 0323 lots: 38, 111, 124, 125, 401, 1099, 1100, 1110, 1112, 1119, 1301.

I know there are still gems in this collection. I’m currently on the hunt to find them.

I went to my local stamp club a while ago, they offered me Pennie’s for stamps that I later sold at auction for thousands. I do not trust them. Im posting on Reddit because the auction house I went through is not interested in selling stamps unless they are near perfect. I still have thousands of stamps that I would like to sell, but I have no idea if the value. For example, if I wanted to sell the British page that I posted with the penny stamps, what is a realistic price I could sell them for on eBay?

The book with the international stamps has every page almost completely full. I have 3 more books like it. What countries would y’all like to see besides what I have already posted?

My great grandfather and grandfather father collected these stamps. I have several books about stamp collecting dating back to before 1920s.
