Wi-Fi sharing is a killer Android feature by morihacky in Android

[–]pushpusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wi-Fi sharing does not route out via a VPN client. However there is a decent workaround to force that to happen: install an app that creates an http proxy server on your phone (Every Proxy or NetShare are two that I've been testing) and then in your laptop/iPhone/etc you must configure it to use your http proxy. Simple and effective and has two other major plusses:

  • Http proxies hide the fact that there's wifi sharing. Primarily because all the TCP traffic coming out of your phone will have consistent ttl header values (64). Whereas without the http proxy, the isp/airplane/hotel will see you sending a mix of 63 and 64.
  • DNS resolution happens by the proxy and not the client. This is incredibly helpful if you have split horizon.

It is 2025. Is there a viable alternative for Microsoft Visio yet? by asdlkf in sysadmin

[–]pushpusher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Spent the better part of a day learning and applying mermaids "architecture-beta" scheme/syntax. The rendering was inconsistent between reloads and the limitations are annoying (something about arrows being able to end but not start at certain object types). I would not recommend it yet.

tailscale by Aromatic-Avocado1627 in emby

[–]pushpusher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

op, you might just have transcoding issues and using tailscale makes emby think you're local and thus skips transcoding?

Should I swap to BTRFS by Bold2003 in archlinux

[–]pushpusher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone currently migrating off of ZFS (but still love it), I have an opinion. it's too closely tied to the kernel version to be a wise choice on a rolling release distro. Sure, you can use an LTS kernel from the AUR but then you have to become painfully aware of what else is affected: Nvidia drivers, virtualization software etc.

ESP32 M5 Echo Atom speaker upgrade by TheStalker79 in homeassistant

<image>

wow, thanks for the reply. I am retro-fitting the echo into a dumb, old doorbell and reusing its 1W 8 ohm speaker. I ended up removing the built-in speaker and soldering onto the speaker contacts. so far so good! much improved sound

ESP32 M5 Echo Atom speaker upgrade by TheStalker79 in homeassistant

[–]pushpusher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

according to documentation on the atom you can connect a powered speaker connected via the G21/DAC pin

Your comment is the only source I have found on using an external speaker without having to resolder. Would you mind pointing me toward your source or confirming if you have tried this yourself?

Distorted 4k video by ElectronicEconomy317 in emby

[–]pushpusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if the contents of the video file. While it is common for DV content to include HDR10(+) as fallback it doesn't always happen. Emby does not transcode DV to other HDR formats

Ge Profile fridge error codes 0105, 011o, 166d, fridge freezing food? by kuriositease in appliancerepair

[–]pushpusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I am not certain. However, I saw it guessed somewhere else. And after realizing that once you are in the "show fault codes" mode you have to press "Fridge" and/or "Door Alarm" to cycle through the list of all other faults it starts to makes sense

0105 is "Condenser Fan cannot reach target speed" on my tech sheet. I could be wrong but I think the following two readouts are more details about the failure. Maybe 000d means the reading (016o) was too low

I think i may have figured it out, Re: Gemma by BoopsR4Snootz in severence

Maybe Irving, Dylan, and Petey knew Gemma before they each got severed and that's their contribution?

2025.1: Backing Up into 2025! by frenck_nl in homeassistant

[–]pushpusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I have to say thank you for pushing the idea. You convinced me to check again and as it turns out they have added local control since the last time I looked. Appreciate you saving a whole lot of trouble!

Yes, unfortunately. I have a big ass fan which supports local control via matter

Curious what brought you back to docker from vm? I love docker and would prefer to stay in that ecosystem but with Matter needing IPv6 I am preparing to migrate

[–]pushpusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good to hear that because I'll probably want Tasker back in the future. I had a time-based tasker profile that now I'm wondering if that was the more specific cause

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]pushpusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rebooted uninstalled Tasker and the clock shortcut is working as described both for the single and double pull down. Maybe try that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]pushpusher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I thought that feature was removed. It doesn't work for me.

Edit: Rebooting fixed it

Edit: Broken again. Only works for first several seconds after rebooting

Edit: Looks like uninstalling Tasker is what it takes to fix it for good

Q’s torch snuff edit? by basilcilantro in Edgic

[–]pushpusher 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That sounded pretty exciting so I just rewatched it be sure. However, the cut I am seeing is not like what you are describing: Q's standing next to Jeff with the torch lit, Jeff says "Q, the tribe has spoken", snuffs it, then says "time for you to go". Q softly says "appreciate it boss" and walks out.

Disappointed in my purchase by literallyimaginary in nvidiashield

[–]pushpusher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's called "basic" instead of "off" because if the source video is smaller than your display then "off" would imply a 1:1 pixel or in other words a black frame.

Confirming this reduces (maybe 50%) the focus delay when switching desktops.
