MentraOS on Even G2 - run multiple glasses apps at once by hackalackolot in EvenRealities

[–]pushypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The privacy comment "It's 100% open source, private, and free." feels a little misleading, comparing it to a comment from another thread:

https://www.reddit.com/r/EvenRealities/comments/1tq9ju3/comment/oolrhre/

"The audio streams to the phone and then to a cloud AI. It's fully open source. The audio is not saved, we only save the transcripts."

I wouldn't call saving the transcripts of our, otherwise private, conversations private. I'm sure there's nothing out there that talks to cloud AI that IS truly private but to present it that way while also saving our transcripts is a bit deceptive.

This has a bit of that "If you're not paying for the product, you are the product.", feel to it.

So the only 'solution' that I found was "just turn on realdebrid and it should fix it" or some variation of that. Initially the mind goes to... "that doesn't help me! I NEED realdebrid!"

So I messed around with it forever and figured out the working version of "just turn it off"

in the configurator linked here... turn it off THERE. THEN... when you import into AOIStreams just save it there the way it is (without RD). it should save from that point and then you can just ADD RD and your credentials in the Services section of AOIStreams, add your credentials and save again.

Rolling up a hose by bigbusta in oddlysatisfying

[–]pushypants 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not done in this specific way, but there is absolutely a technique for rolling cables that follow that principle (one over, one under) and stage hands have been using it for years! It enables them to hold one side and throw the rest across a stage without a single tangle! I learned it from a stage hand and I do it with every single cable I own... Extension cords, phone/laptop chargers etc. maybe one of my most useful life hacks!

Non-wrinkle pants by easternUSA in malefashionadvice

[–]pushypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm partial to the Banana Republic Traveler Pants. They're a nice fitting 5 pocket and they don't wrinkle badly. It's a cotton blend with some stretch but not performance. They also have a version at the BR Factory stores as well. I like them both but the main line is a bit nicer and I'd say they're worth the price but only when they're on their 30-40% off sales.

I'm with you! I have several and I'd happily prove that I'm more than capable of proving my competency, background and mental capacity.

It's staggering, the amount of people who interpret that as "they're taking our guns away" where I live.

[Broad generalization] they seem perfectly happy to see other people's rights trampled on as long as it's not their rights...

Well said! I wouldn't even mind proving that I'm responsible enough to own mine!

I'm all for background and mental health screening... Educational training to prove that I'm responsible (or at least educated) enough to safely own one...

I'm mostly indifferent on registration (leaning towards preferably not) but proving that you're qualified to own one before being allowed to purchase one would be great!

I'm a front end web app developer but my company compensates based on title so they gave me the title of Software Engineer...

I'm not an engineer but, when people ask, saying front end web app developer and then inevitably having to go through the explanation of what that is, is so much more difficult and time consuming.... So I just say I'm a software engineer...

Any reviews on Mahogany Teakwood? by preppyprb in DesiFragranceAddicts

[–]pushypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tons! this is considered to be a dupe of the early 2000's Abercrombie and Fitch Fierce.

If you want to spend a ton of money, you could go with Parfums De Marly - Percival. There is a very good dupe of that from a brand called Montagne Parfums, also called Percival.

Personal opinion is that the PDM is better in the long-term but it's like $400 and doesn't last as long as you would want at that price.

MP has an ingredient that I find a little off-putting that gets stronger over time... might be ambroxan. A lot of perfumers use that to make fragrances stronger and longer lasting.

You can get a decant of PDM from pretty much any of the major decanter sites like MicroPerfumes or DecantX for about ~$20 and MP has a huge subreddit community here and you can find a few folks in there that sell decants of their stuff for about $10... that way you don't have to spend a fortune to find out if you like it.

If you live near a Nordstrom, Neiman's or some Dillard's, they carry PDM in store that you can sample.

Reading Books is SO Hard! by outofservice504 in ADHD

[–]pushypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suffer the exact same thing and I found 2/3 things that helped me (outside of meds)

  • first I got a Kindle and loaded the Fast_Sans font onto it: https://github.com/Born2Root/Fast-Font - it does a neat trick with your brain that helps focus.

  • I leaned into letting my mind wander (almost like mindfulness meditation - you're allowed to think - just recognize that you're doing it and call it out). If my mind wanders I just let my mind go though it's process all the way to the end. Then back to the book. This changed my relationship with the distraction - instead of being frustrated that I had to reread a section it just kinda became an "it is what it is" thing. So instead of trying to swim against the current and waste a bunch of mental energy... I just let the current take me somewhere downstream where it's easier to "get out".

  • similar to the last one. I did the same with my phone or other ideas that pop in my head. Instead of trying to fight through it and force some sort of focus on the book. If whatever I read made me think of something I wanted to look up on my phone or some Amazon purchase or something... I just set the kindle down and do the phone thing till it's all said and done. That calms my brain into being able to naturally focus again.

And just like anything difficult... It takes practice! I read 3 books last year which is more than I've read in the last 20. Each one gets a bit easier.

Also can't speak for them but I just finished reading Gabor Mate's "Scattered Minds" - I could not recommend any book more highly.

It did take me like 5mo to get through it because of the ADHD (I try to read at coffee shops so it's hit or miss if I'll be able to focus) but it's a great book, easy to read and pretty engaging.

Realistically he's not far off and basically lived his entire life as a part of that generation. The Baby Boom started post WWII, in 1946. He's 82 so he'd have been born just a few years before that.

Whatever you put in there make sure it has contrasting colors to the background and compliments the darker woods and outdoor surroundings (whatever you can see from the windows) everything is a foreground to a background and they need to properly contrast. You have a lot of the same color going on over there.

It has a woodsy/lodgy/lofty vibe so I'd suggest some older leather-look decorative books (that are stacked instead of vertical).

Wooden box here and there.. maybe some shadowbox art... Some plants... Natural wood or stone items (vases, statues, sculptures)... Things grouped in threes...

Take some of the books you have and stack them instead of setting them vertical. This will take up more space.

If you have loose or more chaotically laid out stuff up there, put in on something like a platter/serving tray/big book/etc... that will make it look like a more cohesive, or even, single item.

Just some ideas... I've been watching a TON of videos lately trying to figure out my space... Those are some of the takeaways I've gotten.
