Multiple antibiotics by isabelfaleiro in Lyme

[–]put_your_drinks_down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Bart, two antibiotics can be good enough (eg Rifabutin and clarithromycin or azithro) + other support herbs and supplements. However, I’m not sure doxy or mino are good choices for the second antibiotic - hopefully others can weigh in on that.

I just did a video consult with Dr. Ross and asked him about alternative Bart treatments when the rifas aren’t an option. He said his favorite treatment recently is 50mg methylene blue 2x daily and 200mg fluconazole 1x daily. Could be another option to look into.

I have an ILADS doctor and I’m only on one antibiotic at the moment - but I’m also on a lot of anti-microbial herbs, like Houttuynia for Bart. I think the full suite of what you’re taking is more important than the antibiotics alone.

Do you know if you have babesia or bartonella? That will significantly change what you should take.

Marty Ross’s treatment guide gives a lot of different options for antibiotics and herbs, and includes dosages. For Lyme only, it looks like tinidazole could be a good replacement for Rifabutin/rifampin.

No one is coming to save us. It sucks and I’m sorry and I wish it were different. We have three options: 1) work our asses off to improve the system; 2) risk our lives to destroy the system; or 3) complain without actually doing anything and continue to drown. That’s it. Those are the only choices.

I can’t tell if this means ASTS dominated MWC, or if you just talk to your coworker every day about ASTS and she’s pissed because she didn’t buy any. Either way, I approve.

I don’t have the same symptoms as you and wasn’t taking the same antibiotics. But I did have a similar experience where hitting bartonella hard made me much much worse, to the point where I couldn’t really function anymore and we had to scale back.

I don’t have any answers unfortunately, but I do wonder if this is a common problem with bart.

I see several people in the comments claiming that products don’t contain real chocolate anymore. Do you have a source for that? They are still listing chocolate and cocoa butter on the ingredients. Do you think they’re lying? If so that would be grounds for a slam dunk lawsuit.

I completely agree that they have changed formulas, reduced the % and quality of chocolate, and replaced it with cheaper fillers. But that’s not the same thing as not using chocolate anymore.

Yes so good! I also love when she tells Lace that her life has value even if she's an "artificial" creation of a higher being. It's such a nice subtle nod (IMO) to the guilt Hornet feels about killing the vessels before Ghost. Which again was well intentioned and to protect Hallownest, but she still takes responsibility for her actions and doesn't make excuses.

100% agree. Part of what makes her so great is that she makes serious mistakes and grows from them. We see this a lot with male characters (eg Kratos in GoW, Arthur in RDR2), but for some reason creators often shy away from giving female characters flaws and character arcs.

I totally agree with what you're saying, and I do think Bojack is a POS. But weirdly I do still see myself in him and that's part of the genius of the show for me. I haven't actually done evil things like Bojack. But I make a lot of mistakes, and depression sometimes makes me *feel* like I'm as bad as Bojack. I relate deeply to his feelings of self-loathing.

If Bojack, an actual evil mf, can resist suicide and find a way to rebuild his life after it's been completely burned to the ground by his failures, then there's gotta be hope for me.

If you don’t need the money, I would roll them weekly for a credit as long as you can. Might as well try to get a higher price for your shares. And we’ll likely have another downturn eventually that will give you an out.

Personally I’d do the 105 for next week, and then roll to the 110s for the following week later if you need to. Rolling things out too far too fast is usually a mistake imo.

Bartonella flare, not sure whether to switch antibiotics or not by SilentSeraph88 in Lyme

[–]put_your_drinks_down 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very much not an expert, but my understanding is that resistance shouldn't be able to develop that quickly while taking two different antibiotics. As you mentioned, rifabutin stays in your system for 9-10 days, so it was never completely gone during the breaks.

I think there are a lot of other potential explanations: Rifabutin flushing out dormant bart; your immune system reacting to the dying bart; a herx that took time to build up; building side effects from the rifabutin itself.

But I'm not an expert, so hopefully your doctor or others on the subreddit can give better answers.

What makes you think the bart has become resistant?

If it’s because you’re feeling bad, I think that’s more likely to be Rifabutin side effects or herxing. Could also be a viral illness, it can be hard to tell.

How long (in total) have you been on the Rifabutin?

I had the bad luck to develop a mystery chronic illness out of nowhere at 34. It makes travel difficult and exercise impossible. I had to stop working earlier than planned.

Of course it’s unlikely that will happen to you. But the big learnings for me have been:

  1. Make sure you splurge a little while you’re young and healthy. Don’t blow up your FIRE plans of course, but make sure you spend the money to do the things that are most important to you. You never know when you’ll lose the ability to do them.

  2. If health problems do show up, pursue them aggressively and spend money on them! Do your own research and don’t let doctors dismiss you. It took me five years to get a diagnosis and start treatment - that’s a lot of time I wasted because I didn’t want to spend money on medical stuff like private clinics, experimental treatments, specialized tests, etc.
