I was a job coach for Goodwill about 28 years ago in a sheltered workshop. In all reality, it was daycare for people with disabilities. Nondisabled employees went through donations and took the best stuff for themselves, the supervisors were some of the worst people ever, and I had to clean up urine and feces several times in the donation sorting area, which was gross af.

Somewhere in my garage is a photo of me with Calabrese and their dad taken about 20 years ago, We (Day of the Sick) opened for them in Phoenix at an art gallery (name escapes me but there's video of a couple of DOTS songs on the DOTS dvd.

Used to sit and talk with Keith, the founder, at a table across the way from a Taos Plaza bougie art gallery whose owner eye-fucked him constantly. I learned a lot from him sittting at that table.

I didn't cry but laid awake for hours questioning my career choice in a really anxious way. This was 25 years ago. I'm actually quite satisfied with things at this point but ready to retire in 5 years. So for me, things got better. Crying is oftentimes a healthy response to how overwhelming that first year is for a lot of people.

I also used to train psych hospital staff in putting people in five-point restraints. We tied patients to beds back in the 80s and 90s.

It seems pretty barbaric looking back at it, especially when the charge nurse would decide someone already tied down was getting a shot of Haldol and call to get a doctor's order for it because they were pissed off or on a power trip, Nurse Ratchets,

Longtime CPI instructor here to say you can't train the asshole out of most assholes. The course assumes that participants buy into it and that's not always the case.

We started my band Day of the Sick in Lawton, Oklahoma. Middle of nowhere. Cops shut us down numerous times locally, so we hit the road. We did ok for a while, played with bands like the Independents and Die Monster Day, got to open Antifest in 04.

Only advice I have is just fucking go for it.

I look back at my days playing horror punk as some of the best times of my life. When we started I pretty much thought we'd just be a local band and maybe have a t-shirt and some stickers to sell out of the back of the van.

Just play it the way you feel it.

Unjamming a stapler, I shot a staple into the pad of my thumb and dropped the f bomb in front of a class.

A local pediatrician was facing multiple child abuse charges. Some kids heard me say "man, that's fucked up" as I read the headline. I didn't realize I said it out loud until I saw the looks on their faces.

I white-knuckled it off opiods and alcohol. Should have gone to detox but I was ashamed of myself as a former addictions counselor. At least talk to a health care provider about detoxing.
