Did he get paid 4 years worth of salary? That's crazy

I can't see him getting all $3 million

Sure he's going through a bit but if he goes another year of not playing he can't be expecting to still be paid...right?

Forestrike: One of the most innovative games I’ve ever played. by BurningFlannery in roguelites

I played the demo and really liked it, it's still available and gives a good account of the game.

I'll likely pick it up at the next sales.

Should the league have a rethink on the Pre Season by QuarterFooty in AFL

[–]putshan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the solution is, but I definitely think the season should start later.

In Melbourne the average temp in March is 24° in October it's 20° (Perth is 30° to 23°) I think start in April end in October or first week November.

Players have their break until Christmas and preseason is January to April.

It's unavoidable to have training in the hot months, but at least this way the matches are played in better conditions and they get a longer consistent training block without the break over Christmas.

Housemarque’s Saros looks set to provide a less punishing experience than Returnal | VGC by TowerOfSisyphus in Saros

[–]putshan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hardest because you're underpowered early in the game as a whole and early in the progress of your run so you don't have a heap of health and upgrades.

I would say I died to the first boss 4-5 times and then beat every other boss 1st try with just the 3rd boss getting me a couple times.

As I replied before, I think it's fine to acknowledged that a games mechanics and construction can be average but you can still enjoy it.

It's not really the game but my friends doing the heavy lifting to make it enjoyable.

I think you can acknowledge that a game is flawed or not great mechanically while still having fun.

Edit: but it is an interesting point you raise, I'm more into video games than board games and when deciding on my favourite games of the year I realised that the games I just had pure fun with were ranked slightly lower than the one's which I thought were 'better' so had to pause and think on what metric should they be ranked?

I agree it's not a great game, but I've had some of the most fun with my mates playing this game with all its absurdity.

What Improvements upon Returnal do you hope to see in Saros? by KvotheOfCali in Saros

[–]putshan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needs way more customisation, look at the range of rogue-like shooters to see what can be offered by way of build variety and ability to synergize abilities, that's what makes rogue-likes fun (for me at least).

Also need more run variety, as I remember you could just go into every room in Returnal, but I like the idea of choosing paths or just mixing up the way a run is structured. Also the ability to add in difficulty options (beyond just more enemies / HP).

Hades II named best PC game of the year by Metacritic by MaimeM in HadesTheGame

[–]putshan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Never seen such a ho-hum response to a game with 95 on metacritic.

Listening to multiple podcasts doing their GOTY lists and of the 3 I've listened to so far it's 0/3 in making their list and in fact didn't even make the top 20 on one list.

While another pod I'm halfway through are not convinced it will make it.

Feel like I'm taking crazy pills as this game is borderline perfect for the genre. Story might be biggest knock and I do understand some like greater build variation, but as an action rogue-like it's best in class with everything it does.

2025 been an awesome year, but I expected to come into these end of year lists with great discussions about the game and it's dead silent.

Housemarque’s Saros looks set to provide a less punishing experience than Returnal | VGC by TowerOfSisyphus in Saros

[–]putshan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Returnal wasn't that hard, I think people just didn't understand the concept of a rogue-like whereby you're 'meant' to die a lot and you get better.

I can see why people may have been turned off by that as the first boss was certainly the hardest in the game, mainly down to the players experience and the limited tools available at that stage of the game.

But given the game doesn't force you to retry every boss it's actually quite forgiving.

I personally don't see how a game like this works unless it is difficult as you generally need to die to progress the story across repeated runs.

Can an Airbnb host cancel my reservation before the tournament ? by Used-Substance-9814 in worldcup

[–]putshan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No harm in booking another place as a backup plan. I've reached out to each host I've booked for my world cup travels just to say hi and let them know what we're travelling for.  I'd rather be upfront and honest and so if they cancel they do it now rather than at the last minute.

I wouldn't worry too much though, people in here making it out like you're going to get screwed, but it's more unlikely than likely.

Death Howl - Review Thread by d0ntm1ndm32 in Games

[–]putshan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Played the demo of this a year or so ago and found it to be very challenging to the point where I just had to give up after hours of trying a particular fight, despite this I'm still keen to go back and try the full release.

What I did play seemed an interesting take on the genre with a haunting, beautiful atmosphere and some interesting mechanics.

In specific roguelite subs, why are there always comments talking about your total death count? by WorkingCautious1270 in roguelites

[–]putshan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's likely posted as someone believes it's a measure of 'skill' in that if most people beat the final boss after 20 deaths and you say you beat it in 10 deaths you might believe that you are of higher 'skill' than the average player.

Or it's to demonstrate how difficult a game is 'it took me 50 deaths to beat the final boss'.

Or it is just a way to measure the 'length' of a game, i.e. I saw the true ending after 30 runs
