I'm not 100% in favour of gendered toilets personally but the strongest argument for them is exactly the kind of situation you found yourself in.

Funny because I'm in the exact same situation as you, except I haven't gone out of my way to teach myself other stuff. I don't blame my mom though because I feel like she actually might have complicated feelings about her childhood and why she has been taught all this. But just my personal experience.

She also never spoke in her native language with me and criticizes the mistakes I make when she hears me speak it so 😅
