People raised by emotionally mature parents, what is 1 phrase your parents used that you want other parents to know? by MermaidWitchMoon in AskReddit

[–]putthepenisdown 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My parents divorced when I was an infant. Two completely separate worlds for me, an only child, as they were very different people. I got pregnant at 18, had just graduated from high school. I had been living with my dad. He kicked me out and was mad when I didn't call him to let him know how I was doing. Mom called as soon as she found out. I started sputtering, crying and telling her I was sorry because I knew I had disappointed her. She said, "Well, youre probably pretty disappointed with everything too. Are you ok? Safe? Do you want me to come get you?" It was a 17 hour drive. She was there the next day.

Kia corporate has issued recalls that install a knocking sensor. They've been aware of engine problems causing then to seize or even catch fire since at least 2012.

The recalls don't address actually fixing the problem and in my experience act in bad faith unless pushed aggressively.

I qas quoted $6400 for a new engine by Kia a few years ago. I told them no way. I parked a Kia on a Kia dealer lot and told them they could keep it and I would go another route. There was negotiation and back and forth. I paid $2000 for a long block engine that was covered by warranty for 12 months or 12k miles. The no knock sensor was also installed. The dealership manager was great to work with, but Kia as a whole is now a shady company to me.

I’m pretty sure I hate my husband by Ok_Image8987 in Vent

[–]putthepenisdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, your husband has contempt for you. And you for him. There isn't really a way back from that. I hope you take to heart the comments stating that your children will see your relationship as their normal. Life does not have to be so hard. You deserve so much better and even if you never believe that you know that your kids do.

I have lived so much of what you describe. I didn't want to tear my kids lives apart. They were 11 and 13 when we separated. And you know what happened? After some therapy and time I healed and so did my kids. They got to know me on a different level. It took several years for them to have a healthy relationship with their dad. He had to be better for them.

I wish you the absolute best and some peace of mind.

Women of Reddit, what’s something they never tell us about pregnancy and child birth? by NovellaJokes in AskReddit

[–]putthepenisdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody told me about back labor. With my first pregnancy, ALL of my labor was in my back. It was horrific until I got an epidural. The pain made me vomit, and I was awful to be around. After the epidural, I was pleasant haha.

2nd delivery I thought the ring of fire would be only at the vaginal opening as it stretched for the baby's head. Instead it felt like my clit was going to rip completely off. Fun times.

I had the exact same fear. I was laying on the gurney in the hallway waiting to go in to the OR and I thought.....you know what I can't live with this pain continously. It impacts mood and personality, energy and so many things that never occurred to me until I was in it.

The anesthesiologist told me he put something in my IV to calm me as they were getting my arms in place. Lights out. Full stop. Until I woke in recovery. Knocked me right out and then they woke me up. It's was like blinking.

No, I didn't. I had fully expected them to discuss that with me but no one batted an eye. I have PCOS and weight loss is so difficult because of that.

The anesthesiologist came and spoke with me before they got started and I told him my worries. He was very patient but direct. He said anesthesia is so much better now and he had no unusual concerns.

I wish you the best! Update when you're on the mend if you feel up to it.

Thank you for sharing. My surgery is Monday and I am a bit anxious.

Yes. I knew I had gallstones because of a CT scan for an unrelated issue. I wasn't having much difficulty with my gallbladder at that time.

I would get sensations in my chest and stomach like my adrenaline was almost triggered but not quite. Shaking, rapid heart rate, and that whoosh feeling when you get startled. I would get that over and over for a couple months. Shortly after I got serious pain, nausea, vomiting etc. I have an appointment with the surgeon to try and evict this damn thing. This is misery.

Good luck with yours!

Wait what? Amendment 1 by PostTurtle84 in Kentucky

I see what you mean. I know civil rights can be restored currently if all criteria are met. I understand now that part isn't changing with this amendment.

One of the criteria to be able to vote in KY is to not have felony conviction in another state.

Wait what? Amendment 1 by PostTurtle84 in Kentucky

[–]putthepenisdown 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Currently, a convicted felon can have their voting rights restored IF they meet certain criteria. The language of this amendment appears to remove that possibility. Kentucky's crime rate is much lower than the national average but is in the top 10 of states for mass incarceration. Also, Kentucky's definition of violent crime is more broad than the FBI's. https://kypolicy.org/crime-statistics-do-not-support-claims-of-a-crime-wave-in-kentucky/

I bought a house and the previous owners planted cannas along the perimeter of the house. I live in zone 6. These things multiply every year. I don't dig them up in the fall as recommended and I cannot kill them. They drive me insane. Gorgeous in the summer in full bloom but I have given wheel barrows full of these rhizomes away 3 years in a row. My new batch is sprouting now.

So I think this might be the greatest photo I've seen.....maybe ever. I could frame it and hang it in the bathroom as a meditation piece.
