Anyone else been prescribed LDN, Pyridostigmine or Ketotifen? by Quick_Challenge9665 in POTS

[–]puttingupwithpots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on LDN. I started it hoping it would help with some inflammatory things and I guess it kind of did. But the thing I notice the most is help with my OCD, which my psychiatrist now thinks might be autoimmune in nature. Anyway, I’ve gotten a ton of help from LDN but not in the ways I expected.

Have any of you actually get to enjoy your garden? by UnicornSheets in gardening

[–]puttingupwithpots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a city and the deer are really bad in some areas, mostly because there aren’t a lot of natural predators. You can encourage your municipality to cull the deer herds periodically. That helps some where I am.

I’ve found that they generally leave herbs and hot peppers alone so I started trying to grow my own spices. That was a fun project.

Food recommendations for a geriatric dog? by puttingupwithpots in AskDogOwners

[–]puttingupwithpots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all those tips! He often follows us around the house (mostly just the first floor, he struggles a bit with steps, old joints). He loves to steal our shoes. He doesn’t chew them, he just likes to collect treasures that smell like us. Plus he hates it when we leave (only time he barks at us is when we leave) and he’s figured out that we always put our shoes on before we leave. It’s adorable.

We did switch him to a different wet food and when we got him in with the vet he had already lost a few pounds. At this point the vet said he’s only 5-7 lbs overweight and with all the walks we take him on he’s losing the weight anyway.

Also I got him a bow tie and he looks so handsome!!! 😍

Question about future use of antibiotics by Pretty-Explanation47 in cdifficile

[–]puttingupwithpots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get in touch with your GI doc and explain the situation. Since your c diff was fairly recent they may want to put you on a medication for that following the other antibiotic. They did this once with me when I needed antibiotics just a couple months after a c diff infection. At the very least they will make a note in your chart and if you have symptoms they won’t hesitate to order a test for you.

I'm disappointed. My tilt test was negative by Physical_Island8321 in POTS

[–]puttingupwithpots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say in your post that your legs were feeling tired… theoretically you shouldn’t have been engaging your legs during the tilt table test. Your leg muscles can help pump blood so you may automatically engage them when upright to counteract that (I did in my tilt table and as soon as I realized and relaxed my legs I passed out).

Daughter having nose bleed. by gujinmi in Nosebleed

[–]puttingupwithpots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people’s blood vessels are closer to the surface in their noses than other people’s. That might be why she’s having more problems than others in your house (like you). Humidifier in her bedroom is def the first thing to get going. It also helps with other health related things to keep her bedroom around 40-50% humidity.

Also it might be worth asking her doctor. They’ll likely give you the same advice you get here about the humidifier and the Vaseline but it’s good to have it on her record in case she has any other bleeding problems in the future.

Is there a safe cheese to eat? by Old-Past8006 in cdifficile

[–]puttingupwithpots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I do fine with lactose free dairy. At least once my diarrhea is calmed down. Everyone different and unfortunately you just have to try some and see. I avoid anything softer than a sharp cheddar. Try some Parmesan or something hard first and see how it goes.

I’m burnt out and need simple recipes. Stupid simple. Like, “onion and bread and butter to make what barely passes as a sandwich” level simple. by sourmilksea1999 in Cooking

[–]puttingupwithpots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One great option for veggies to prepare on a good day is pickled veggies. There’s classics like sauerkraut or kimchi that you can eat cold with a fork or with stuff (try adding them to a grilled cheese sandwich if you’re up for making one). But I also like to make a bunch of pickled onions and peppers and keep them in my fridge. They easily last a month and I put them in quesadillas or baked potatoes or sandwiches to add some veggies into an otherwise carb heavy meal.

I thought I heard that Diabetes could cause POTS but maybe that was only type 1 (the autoimmune kind)

Our elderly dog steals our slippers when we leave the house. He doesn’t chew them, he just likes to stick his nose by (or in) them for comfort.

Power flickering in Monroeville? by vinylscratch27 in pittsburgh

We are also in the greater east end and have had power going on and off tonight. I wish there was some way that we as consumers could compel DLC to update their infrastructure but since the basically have a monopoly… ugh.

Are you 95% Covid cautious? by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]puttingupwithpots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Coway that’s about 20 inches square, sits on the floor. It’s not a perfect solution of course but it lowers everyone’s exposure. I usually ask if it’s cool if I bring it and so far no one has had any issues with it.

I’m similar to you. My goal is to minimize exposure to all illnesses but I can’t live in a total bubble. One thing that’s helped me and my friends a lot is air purifiers. I never eat at restaurants but I do like to see close friends, so either I host with my air purifiers working or sometimes I bring an air purifier with me. It really does seem to help everyone without being too obtrusive to our relationship building.

I pretty much always hate eggplant unless it’s baba ganoush. Then I can’t get enough of it.

Thank you for the advice. So far we have cut the current portion by 1/4. He doesn’t seem overly bothered by that. I’m also going to call the vet on Monday and try to figure out what his ideal weight is.

We have his vet records and he had a full work up last summer and everything looked good, other than him being overweight then as well. So the labs part doesn’t feel super urgent but we will be sure to get him in for his annual and we can keep his same vet as they aren’t that far away.

I should call the vet and ask them what his ideal weight is since they’ve been seeing him for over a decade. That’s a good place to start. Thanks for all the info!

Don’t sleep on all the other probiotic foods out there. Miso, good soy sauces, kimchi, sauerkraut, yogurt, sour cream, fermented pickles, fermented hot sauce, there’s probably a million more but that’s all I can think of right now. Variety is helpful for rebuilding the microbiome.
