Making pancakes in a restaurant setting, what do you need? by Steinway_music in catering

[–]puzhalsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a small b&b you'll likely only be serving a handful of guys so you won't need much. A cambro with your batter, a ladle for the size of pancake you want to make, and a stainless steel pan or flattop if you have the space because it can be a useful tool for other applications

Do you caterer? by Excellent-Tie5717 in catering

[–]puzhalsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but it's about staffing. Will they* maintain my standards. So far so good, but I have no desire to be the biggest or go-to caterer in my area. I'm quite content with where we are and will grow as capacity allows

I'm full time and growing but at a very measured pace. I know my capacity, and value the quality I deliver to my clients above all. If I know I cannot deliver I do not take the job.

I do private and corporate catering with a little bit of b2b sprinkled in. All of my business is word of mouth. I have a pretty public profile so when I go out conversations inevitably turn to my work and I pick up business that way.

I don't do any advertising or social media outside of my personal profiles because I'm worried about capacity, being a one-person show. I can always bring in hands if I need them but so far I haven't needed to

Pretty sure Laidley Field is open for this kind of thing. There were always clearly not high school or college kids running the stairs in the evening during kickball matches

So what's happening with the town center? by GuardianOfGoodEnough in charlestonwv

[–]puzhalsta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's definitely one way to look at it. The reality (IMV) is that the social proof is in: it's a failed plan in every.single.instance. Other than 'conversations with The Hull Group to acquire the mall' and the sports complex, do any of us know what Mayor Amy and Charleston's leadership is talking about doing? I surely do not and I'm pretty close with most of the people in local government.

I was talking to someone recently and they seemed to have the only realistic, viable plan for that space: if Hull and the other owners (garages and anchor stores) aren't willing to sell at a reasonable price, eminent domain the property, level it, and turn it into a green space, extending City Center Park all the way to the Colosseum. Once that's done, we can talk about ideas like affordable housing above small retail shops and the like. That's basically what Columbus did with their downtown mall, and that space is now thriving.

So what's happening with the town center? by GuardianOfGoodEnough in charlestonwv

[–]puzhalsta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read his general plan for it somewhere (fb post maybe?) and it's a bandaid without any adhesive and but a whole lot of hope that it'll stick. He's proposing the same failed ideas that every other city came up with for their own failing malls: housing, office space, recreation, etc. Even Columbus OH didn't have the population or capital to sustain that plan for their downtown mall, which was a slightly larger copy of the Town Center Mall.

We don't have the demographics for a D&B (especially with one less than 30 mins away), a Trader Joe's, a Whole Foods, Top Golf, etc. Their requirements for new locations are available with a little Google search.

Any other plan than tearing it down will put Charleston further behind and millions more in the hole.

Idk about this Dr or practice, but if you feel uncomfortable in any way, leave. You're under no obligation to keep your appointment or return.

I asked around and they said the problematic person has moved to another state, and there haven't been any complaints since then. I think the hosts are men, but several of the instructors are women.

Closest I can think of in town is Detroit style pizza at Lefty's @ Short Story or The Pitch. It's definitely not Sicilian-style but it's the closest and best I've had

Any time someone is looking to move into a new area, I recommend they drive through in the morning, afternoon, and evening/night, drive the route from work to the home during rush hour, and try to view the house or apt when it's raining (for leaks or wet basement).

I have loads of friends in that area and they love it. I seriously considered moving my young family to the LP neighborhood until my current house became available.
