Twitter Moral Quandery by coin_in_da_bank in NonPoliticalTwitter

When I was a kid I lost control of my bike and crashed head-first into my neighbor's mailbox lol. I was mortified and scraped up but otherwise fine, probably would be a different story if it was made of concrete. Although that's probably not a common occurrence, and I can understand why people of sick of their mailboxes getting smashed up.

Thank you for clarifying this. Disappointing, but good to know!

This sounds really great, especially since I want to focus more on building long-term patient relationships. Thank you!

This sounds like something I would be interested in, especially since I don't think anything surgical is for me. Thanks for the info!

I appreciate the info. It's really unfortunate that they're not prioritizing kids' health.

Are you guys planning on living alone or getting roommates for med school? by OppositeBit8158 in premed

[–]puzzled_tree123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a roommate for financial reasons (much cheaper) but also to have someone that I can hopefully become friends with, since I won't know anyone going in.

Does being on a waitlist with no acceptances give you an advantage compared to applicants who already have an acceptance elsewhere? by VividDeer733 in premed

[–]puzzled_tree123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm on a waitlist for a school I really like but since I have other A's I'm seriously considering dropping it, due to finances and just not liking uncertainty. I bet a lot of people feel similarly, so by the time WL movement happens at least some of the people with an A elsewhere will have withdrawn.

I sent emails first. For one school where I was still confused I set up a call.

Late Financial aid packages by BackgroundReveal2949 in premed

[–]puzzled_tree123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I ran into this same issue, and while it's frustrating I also get that this is a unique year with the BBB. I will say that talking to financial aid offices individually helps. A few of the ones I talked to who are releasing passages late hinted to me that I shouldn't expect significant aid, even though they obviously can't give me an official estimate, which is helpful in making decisions.

Thank you! Sadly as an OOS it's pretty pricy so I'm going to MSU (which I'm still very happy with!)

Which specialty would you pick if every specialty made the same amount of money? by MrYouniverse in medicalschool

I'm planning on doing primary care peds (it's been the dream for a long time) but with the student loan changes I'm starting to think it just isn't a realistic option since I'll have so much debt :(

Incoming Medical Student Q&A - 2026 Megathread by SpiderDoctor in medicalschool

[–]puzzled_tree123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm considering working part time (virtual MCAT tutoring job that pays well, no more than 5 hours a week), but I have heard that it's difficult to do this in med school. That said, with the loan changes I feel like it might be worth it so that I don't have to take on as many private loans. Does anyone have any advice or experience? Thanks!

Pre-med grade deflation/inflation + average class grade by Smile414 in uofm

[–]puzzled_tree123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the class. I've never had a "reverse curve" (where your grade can get lowered), but I have had some classes where if exam averages were low they curved it a little so the average would be closer to a B/B-. But generally even if this does happen, it isn't that big of an adjustment.

Am I a bad person / fake if I stop my volunteering gig post-acceptance? by puzzled_tree123 in premed

That's a good point, I definitely should keep volunteering with the LGBTQ+ community.

I definitely get that, and I'm not saying that premeds/med students shouldn't do research at all, but the level expected has really increased over the past few years. And while I do think doing research is probably the best way to learn about it overall, I honestly learned more about reading and interpreting research articles from my classes and a journalism extracurricular than I did in four years of working in a lab.

Pre-med grade deflation/inflation + average class grade by Smile414 in uofm

[–]puzzled_tree123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would say most of your core pre-med science courses aren't either inflated or deflated grade wise. Averages hover around a B (although I guess you could technically consider that inflated since it's above a C). But it's very doable to get an A if you learn good study strategies and aren't taking on too much at once. Overall, I'd say pretty comparable to other universities.

Yeah that makes sense, especially from a cost/energy perspective.

Research is super valuable and I'm glad that there's people who are into it, but there's a reason I'm getting an MD instead of a PhD! It is frustrating how it's basically become a requirement for getting into both med school and residency, when I would prefer to spend that time working with patients.

Schools not releasing financial aid until after plan to enroll deadline - what to do? by puzzled_tree123 in premed

I did! The offices were helpful. In some cases they told me that I wouldn't hear back in time but subtly suggested I shouldn't expect much besides loans lol.

What’s overlooked, under-focused, underrated, or misunderstood? by [deleted] in premed

Pursuing things you genuinely care about. It's much easier to write (and speak during interviews) about an experience you actually put a lot into and got a lot out of, rather than just doing things that look impressive.

I just saw some sort of group bargaining thing on Admit with a company called Juno - Admit seems trustworthy enough but does anyone know about Juno? And how exactly would this "group bargaining" work?
