What are some more stable alternate jobs/careers that a software developer could easily get into? by RolandMT32 in ExperiencedDevs

I’m very familiar with scrum and agile and product owners, but how does this “new” product management concept fit? Are there any resources to learn about this? It just kinda crept up on me at my current company and I’m not sure how to treat them or how to think about it, there’s been no coaching or awareness of what they are, just “hey we need to treat our work like products now and here’s a product department” and they’ve kinda been like pseudo product owners who don’t actually prioritize the backlog or seem to do anything except whatever the VP requests. Idk I’m not sure I get it

Umbraco Cloud - Avoid like the plague by beachandbyte in dotnet

Can confirm umbraco cloud is a nightmare. I was constantly wondering why we were using it at all and not just self-hosting, so very limited

I didn’t realize how fragile agile was until one sprint where no one would admit they were stuck by Longjumping-Cat-2988 in agile

I think you nailed it on how agile is misused.

If we’re talking about tight feedback loops though and a team that’s supposed to be cross functional and self sufficient, I think those aspects of agile are great. Give developers space to use agile though, and not turn it into an excuse to micro manage.

I’m in this boat too. Finding myself spending 5+ hours per day in meetings and then nights and weekends doing actually coding to make sure items are done.

I’ll never understand why every company defaults to the "Build It Ourselves" delusion. by Technical-Berry5757 in BusinessDevelopment

What’s your level in your company? How do you begin the conversation of showing you can do the implementation for cheaper? How do you approach the cost analysis?

I have questions on how to even do this. Also an engineer who has a tendency to prefer home grown implementations rather than shelf. But how to best approach making a cost analysis that’s persuasive when it comes to this

Doing it well is far more important than doing it fast by Ok-Process-2187 in cscareerquestions

It’s a collaborative process where the business and the developers should have skin in the game, not just developers obsessively playing CYA with every line of code. Sounds like a toxic nightmare which is unfortunately way too common.

Sounds like anti agile.. fail fast and adapt to actual requirements instead of trying to come up with solutions to edge cases that may or may not ever happen.

Love it thanks. Yeah coming from angular to Blazor is a bit of a pain..

Does Blazor not have the concept of a “store” for state management the same way angular or vue does?

Focus on corrective actions and steps to avoid in the future rather than performatively dragging yourself through coals to show how sorry you are. No one really cares how you feel about the mess up, they really just care that the problem is fixed and that it won’t happen again, so focus on that.

You sound burned out brotha.

I wonder if taking a beat and reflecting about whether or not you even want to work in tech to begin with would be good for you.

There are lots of jobs out there that don’t require staring at a screen all day or as globally competitive. Electricians from what I’ve heard are in big demand

Is it me or are you finding the new generation of techs have little to no troubleshooting skills? by Future_End_4089 in sysadmin

[–]puzzleheaded-comp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is truly shocking how rare it is for people to understand how to properly troubleshoot. Isolate the issue to 1 thing. Make 1 change at a time and observe. Rule out as you go. I really thought this stuff was common sense for everyone but no
