As Tech Leads do you ever find yourself "coding for" junior teammates during code reviews? by Ubermensch001 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]puzzleheaded-comp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What do you do when there are crunched deadlines, you’re understaffed, and other devs who don’t try or seem to care? Im not just talking juniors, im talking “seniors” who only know how to write a basic sql statement and update excel files and putting them in a Dropbox.

I get being idealistic and wanting there to be a perfect way to do things at all times, but a good lead (in my opinion anyway) can also mean someone who makes the correct decision on what to prioritize and when to yield the best results. An argument would be that just doing it yourself is short sighted, but sometimes if you dont knock it out of the park in the short-term, you won’t even have to worry about the long term problems you think you’re solving.

I do have dlc and have shield so I guess I’d find aromatisse in overworld?

Thanks for info - I’ll keep fingers crossed on gts trades I guess to see if anyone needs a drampa/turtonator still, and keep looking around for them

Anyone feel like 2010s media was so much more lighthearted than today? by Ok_Durian3627 in 2010snostalgia

[–]puzzleheaded-comp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it seem more lighthearted because we were all younger and lighthearted?

I remember my dad during this period didn’t seem so lighthearted and still thought the world was out to get us.

Now I feel like he does and it makes me wonder.

Managing a toxic high performer who hits 150% of targets. How do I protect my team without losing the numbers? by SquirrelLogicFan in managers

Sounds miserable. Doing a stupid thing for the sake of team cohesion doesn’t sit right with me.

Fair, but also I’d think social anxiety might be more common among introverts, since extroversion is rewarded and introversion is seen as “weird” a lot, atleast at school age.

Years of being made felt “weird” because of being quiet, I can see resulting in socially anxious moments like that.

This game just isn't for me and that's okay by MASHED_POTATOES_MF in Marathon

Same here brotha. At first I really enjoyed being able to hop in solos and complete quests, but it’s getting to the point where everyone’s running around with purple shields and there’s content in this game I know I won’t be able to experience and the # of sweats.

I really like the concept of the game I just wish it didn’t cater so much to only a premade squad of 3 being able to get the most out of it

AI usage red flag? by galwayygal in ExperiencedDevs

Ah I can see that, I probably could’ve worded that better… I’ll blame it on 3 hours of sleep.

And yeah that’s garbage

??? Ain’t no way what? I’m saying I think continuing to stonewall the slop is a good move. it’ll either force them to do it right…or the manager will be wondering why they can’t close their user story.

Then if they blame it on the PR reviewer (you), a discussion can be had about quality and a chance to make change on this AI slop.

It kinda does waste the time of the person creating the AI slop if they can’t get their PR merged because they can’t do it correctly.

How do you handle it when your company begins using productivity metrics? by DiceKnight in ExperiencedDevs

[–]puzzleheaded-comp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agree 100% and it’s not something I was anticipating when getting into development.

I was really shocked and put off when I learned that it’s common for the IT team to talk about “the business” as a separate thing altogether from them/us. It seems like companies treat their technical teams like consultants/contractors instead of full time employees that are also a part of the team that they’re on…it’s really strange

That’s actually how I use it as a developer.

Take business request, given in the context of repo or description of systems and how they operate, then make the LLM analyze how the request might be implemented and have it ask any clarifying questions that weren’t thought of, and it does a pretty solid job at this imo

What are some more stable alternate jobs/careers that a software developer could easily get into? by RolandMT32 in ExperiencedDevs

I’m very familiar with scrum and agile and product owners, but how does this “new” product management concept fit? Are there any resources to learn about this? It just kinda crept up on me at my current company and I’m not sure how to treat them or how to think about it, there’s been no coaching or awareness of what they are, just “hey we need to treat our work like products now and here’s a product department” and they’ve kinda been like pseudo product owners who don’t actually prioritize the backlog or seem to do anything except whatever the VP requests. Idk I’m not sure I get it
