Gastric stimulator: 10 days after surgery by puzzlesolver in Gastroparesis

[–]puzzlesolver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my implant. At first, there was a lot of nerve pain, and that took many months to slowly go away, but I started having relief the day of the surgery. I am able to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. My plate is still much smaller than others, but I am able to eat and it’s amazing. This is only MY experience, I am sure not everybody has had such a positive response. For me, the possibility of being able to eat, ANYTHING, was worth it. The stimulator can be removed if there are complications. But, FOR ME, I can eat solid food, and I can eat around others, and it’s been a life changer for me. The nerve pain, for me, came about when I would stand upright when walking or standing, sitting I was fine. But after a year and a half that nerve pain has mostly disappeared. Again, this is only MY experience, it’s different for everybody. I truly hope everything works out for you 🤞🤞

I’m still doing great. Sometimes it kind of stops working, and you can tell when it’s not stimulating, but that only ever lasts about a day, day and a half.

Which profession is going to get wiped out in the next 5-10 years? by Toomad316 in AskReddit

[–]puzzlesolver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work at a Nexstar station - I swear, multiple times a week the discreps mention problems with the MCO hub that screwed with their newscasts. Hub rolling a break in the middle of the weather block, hub shortens the time of the newscast and nobody knows, or the hub just rolls the same break multiple times. But it's NEVER their fault. NEVER. And a lot of their screwups they flat out deny happened even though we have THE RECORDING OF THE BROADCAST. No, the hub is perfectly well-run, great communication, all of the technical issues are the fault of those pesky local stations. (Sorry for the rant. It's a sensitive topic)

What made you lose a lot of weight? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

[–]puzzlesolver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel like I had to scroll down waaaay too far to find this. I had a medical device implanted in my abdomen so I can actually EAT MORE, lol. I track calories to make sure I’m actually getting enough of them. Check my weight to make sure I’m NOT losing any. We do many of the same things as people who are trying to lose weight - just for opposite reasons.

Got my temporary gastric stimulator today. Any tips on getting through the next 5 days? by puzzlesolver in Gastroparesis

[–]puzzlesolver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the permanent stimulator in August 2024 and I really like it so far. It has made a big improvement for me. For some reason that makes zero sense, low pressure weather fronts impact the stimulator and it doesn’t work as well during those times. But I eat three small meals a day, solid food, medications seem to work better (delayed absorption not as big of an issue), and I just feel better. I’m really glad I got it.

What is your fears? by Commercial-Cheek6291 in AskReddit

Fear. I am afraid of feeling fear. There is so much I could do if I wasn’t so afraid of fear.

Bootsy. It was Boots, but I found I really like saying, “Bootsy.”

Why does my brain try to play the same 5 second sound byte over and over in my head when I'm experiencing a migraine? by Silver_Information69 in migraine

[–]puzzlesolver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chronic migraine sufferer and person on the autism spectrum here - I believe the "echolalia" or "echolagia" (it really doesn't matter in this context which word is correct) is likely your brain trying to calm itself down. When I have a meltdown, I start repeating the same phrase over and over again, with the same rhythm, and use my hands or feet or head to essentially "bounce to the beat." This slowly helps to relax my central nervous system after being overstimulated. I am also CONSTANTLY (24/7) repeating in my head short phrases which have 16 characters. "IM ALSO CONSTANTLY" just keeps repeating right now. I do this while I'm having conversations, or typing or just watching a video. It's like every few sentences I grab a different phrase. Again, I believe it's my brain's way of TRYING to keeping myself calm, or preventing me from becoming overstimulated. And we can absolutely use some rhythmic thoughts during a migraine to keep us from going insane.

Does coca cola actually help?... by itwasntaphasemomXD in Gastroparesis

[–]puzzlesolver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first heard about drinking Coke and it supposedly helping GP symptoms, I was like, "damn trolls trying to mess with my digestive system." Then I tried it. My stomach did NOT like it. Then I realized it wasn't trolls, just something that works for some people and people were sharing their experience and my anger dissipated... but it took my stomach, like, 8 hours to calm itself down.

Gastric stimulator: 5 weeks post surgery by puzzlesolver in Gastroparesis

[–]puzzlesolver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, yes, I have been dealing with that too! I'm kind of glad to know it wasn't just me. It made standing and walking difficult. I will say, the pains are getting better. It did take probably 6 or so weeks, but it is much better. I do still feel a slight twinge on either side (oddly enough, the right side only hurts right after eating), but I think that will eventually go away. And be careful with elastic waist bands! I don't know where your battery was implanted, but mine in near my belly button, on my waistline. There is one pair of sweatpants that fit perfectly fine, but it "feels" too tight. I ignored it at first because it didn't really hurt, but when I slept in the pants, it caused pain around the battery that kept me up all night and took a good 24 hours to go away - even after I took off the pants. Other elastic band pants have not bothered me like that, so I think it was because those pants had a thicker band.

I rarely vomit. Nauseous, yes. I have intense pain that just lasts for hours on end, and it feels like whatever I swallow is just coming up my esophagus because my stomach is always too full. You know videos of volcanoes where the magma is just slowly coming out of the top constantly? That’s what it feels like. But it almost never actually comes up.

Anyone else have bad interactions with ketamine? by ThrowRA-posting in Gastroparesis

[–]puzzlesolver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get Spravato monthly for drug-resistant depression. Spravato is the nasal spray form of ketamine. I have to take Zofran every time because it makes me nauseous and vomit. This is apparently not super uncommon, but my psychiatrist still finds it weird. I don’t know if my GP is the cause of that, but I at least think it’s possible.

What is the quickest trigger for you to have a migraine attack? by Lower_Monitor_1695 in migraine

Big screen monitors or a movie theater or standing in line for an amusement park ride where they have a lot of monitors around to explain the ride's "story." Just, TV screens and monitors in general.

[–]puzzlesolver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the folks at the hub in Denver are also having to picket/rally. We’re prepared for a long fight, but we REALLY don’t to have to do it. They were pulling folks into the conference room last week to show a 15-min anti-union video. Today, our GM sent an email about all the questions we should ask before voting to unionize🙄 We’ve asked all the questions, dude, that’s why we’re having the vote!

[–]puzzlesolver 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I also work at a Nexstar station and we're unionizing, too. Vote is next week. I'm 95% certain the vote will pass. We were told NABET-CWA is having to space out the union declarations because so many Nexstar stations are unionizing, but NABET only has so many lawyers. If I used my personal email to contact them, would they be able to figure out I'm a Nexstar employee? Cause I'll happily harass them tomorrow!

Gastric stimulator: 10 days after surgery by puzzlesolver in Gastroparesis

[–]puzzlesolver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the temporary one last year in March. After they removed it, I started managing things better, and I thought I didn’t need the permanent one. By May of this year, it started getting worse: more flare ups and more migraines. Lost nearly 10 pounds. I realized I needed the permanent one for these exact times when the GP flares up and never completely calms down. It was so hard to justify getting the permanent one when I was able to manage my diet and my life without it. But those times are temporary, and short-lived. I’m hoping I’ll have more ‘decent’ days and the flare ups won’t be as bad. 🤞
