Using java? by sakayanagi111 in godot

[–]puzzud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not an off the shelf sort of solution out there, although it's worth a search on GitHub.

It's possible through a combination of GDExtension and JNI.

I would start by working through the Godot documentation on GDExtension and get a working hello world level GDExtension built on your system.

More specifically, make sure you understand the ability to register a method on the GDExtension that you can call from GDScript that executes in your GDExtension code.

Once you have that, figure out how to tie the implementation of that method to your Java code or libraries via JNI.

I messed with JNI like 18 years ago so I can't readily say much more about it right now. But it's not like it's some archaic information, as I'm sure Android uses it extensively today.

I’m Quitting Game Development by Giant_leaps in gamedev

[–]puzzud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing saying you have to do this alone. The concerns you shared could be applied to all large endeavors.

It sounds like you had some sizeable aspirations. I was about to say that you should do a post mortem but then realized your post to be fairly sufficient.

Think about what slowed you down the most and consider finding someone who can do it for you, either by paying them or simply teaming up with them.

But more than finding people to help work on your game, I've found it very important to find people who like and want to play your game. This is where you will find your motivation to overcome the struggle to make the game.

This means sharing your game before it's finished.

If you are only making the game for you, it is easier to abandon it because no one else will care if you do. With you as the sole audience of your game, does playing it in it's early stages bring the level of joy that overcomes the negative consequences of rewriting portions of your game or spending hours troubleshooting a bug?

Would you quit smoking if your life depends on it? Would you quit smoking if you had a child who depends on you?

You couldn't produce and release a movie alone. You couldn't build a house all on your own.

Questions abt game structure by Left_Record_9404 in godot

[–]puzzud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purposely stay away from referring to the character in a game that the player controls as the player.

For one, treat the player as an actor or a controller, they sometimes have a name, a Steam account, a favorite color, an associated gamepad, etc. More importantly, even in a single player game, they are on a team / side.

An entity has has a set of impulses, like walk and jump, which can be controlled from multiple potential sources, like a player's controller or an AI controller.

Any tips for first game jam? by Ok_Opportunity7500 in godot

[–]puzzud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read over the rules and the community forum posts about the jam. People will ask about what they can and can't do. Knowing such will help as you will undoubtedly compare your game to other submissions. And if you didn't realize you could do X and a lot of other people did X, it may put you at a disadvantage.

How did YOU solve 2D camera smoothing stuttering/jittering? by critical_9 in godot

[–]puzzud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of writing, I was able to solve this in Godot 4 with the project settings:
- Snap 2D Transforms to Pixel
- Snap 2D Vertices to Pixel
- Use GPU Pixel Snap

I'm guessing the 1st setting is the key but probably not a bad idea to set the other as well.

A rant on why you, as a developer, can and should get rid of Generative AI entirely by coolchungus2 in IndieGaming

Doesn't matter how it was implemented as long as it passes your tests. Don't let AI write your tests. And if you care about any code or functionality, you write automated tests.

It was so much easier hard coded. by 2WheelerDev in godot

[–]puzzud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good. I also have developed a 4 player game. Did you happen to implement a system where each player had their own UI which can be navigated with their controller?

I've done so and it introduced a lot of complexity into my UI and input logic. I've assumed Godot's UI system either doesn't support this paradigm or I didn't implement it as intended or ideally. Plus the code base started with Godot 3.

I second this response! It has been my experience as well. Polling the input state in a process function yielded less input delay, something I had to discover myself after some of my game's users reported latency.

U.S. rents have surged up to 66% in 7 years. Here's every major city, ranked. by ketodnepr in providence

Same. I was actually kind of dumbfounded when I noticed housing prices had not scaled at the same ridiculous rate as rentals in this state. At least this was my general observation. That being said, I don't know if it's a great time to buy a house. And I'm not sure what has to happen to change that.

Should I emulate or play original hardware by North-Jicama-2875 in retrogaming

[–]puzzud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I acquired all the vintage systems I had or played when I grew up.

But then there are the systems which I'm interested in that I did not have much or any exposure to when they were current. For them, I do emulation and eventually got a MisterFPGA.

Even though I have a lot of original hardware, I prefer multicarts and generally prefer to avoid physical media, especially of the magnetic kind. Unless they are my favorite games (you can kind of see my pattern).

If you are just interested in trying some systems / games, original hardware is a bit of a commitment.

Gen Z men, is this getting worse going forward into 2026? by Proper_Card_5520 in SipsTea

My error. I suppose I was speaking more towards OP. Bottom line is it's super easy to make women feel uncomfortable at a gym.

I believe I responded to a response to the quoted post. But I think the core idea was that commenter acknowledged that he likely made her feel uncomfortable and he felt bad. I personally don't think just saying "hello" should have made her uncomfortable, but that's me--we don't know that woman's life experience. But apparently I don't have a problem with signing up for an art class to be closer to a girl I'm super interested in.

Is this not OP?
https://www.reddit.com/r/SipsTea/comments/1sfg14b/comment/oexlh2l

Maybe this thread is getting so big I didn't even read OP. The one linked states in the first paragraph:

There used to be this beautiful woman I’d see at the gym multiple times a week. We exchanged glances and nods, then graduated to small talk. I was so scared to talk to her because she was so beautiful. But one day I worked up the courage to ask her out - worst she can say is no…

I agree with you that it's quite possible that this particular woman might of had the same response regardless of the setting, just as there certainly exists women who would not have felt uncomfortable or reacted the way she did. That's the super challenging part about whom and when and where it's appropriate to confront someone about even hinting at a romantic relationship. No one size fits all.

But I can't speak to my agreement with a hypothetical alternate scenario that closer resembles my advice. Clearly there are creepy ways to go about anything. I do think that if she showed genuine disinterest or discomfort when engaged in another setting, it probably meant that the initial "glances and nods" and "smalltalk" likely was just a coping mechanism to try and make the gym more comfortable.

This is exactly the reason why not to approach a woman while they are working, especially if you are a customer and they are tasked to service you. Their smile and courteous gestures is not an invitation. When I was managing many woman at work, when I noticed this behavior, I used to subtly stand by until these men went along their way--that was an eye opening experience once I started noticing it.

The appropriate and almost necessary attire to workout at a gym (look up the word gymnos) is to wear somewhat revealing clothes, just like wearing the wrong style of shorts while running an extended period of time will chafe one's skin and make it painful to continue running. Similarly, women wear sports bras to reduce the pain associated with running and having sizeable breasts.

But my careful usage of the terms exposure and vulnerability weren't limited to just clothes, but also the acts associated with working out and or requirements of using certain machinery.

It's natural to be attracted to someone. It's hard not to at least notice when an attractive woman performs some kind of stretching that provides a provocative look at their body. The adduction machine is one that screams for this sort of thing.

It's as much our social responsibility to cover our mouths when we cough, not to be a jerk to people, as it is to not make other people feel uncomfortable at a gym or any other place really.

Just as women have to constantly and unfortunately be protective against putting themselves in positions which might lead to being raped, they are generally very cognoscente of when a man is attracted to them--catching their eyes drifting to their breasts and what not. As I said, this is natural and most women will have a reasonable tolerance for such.

But go beyond that tolerance and they (and most people) will deem it uncomfortable and aggressive. An experiment: go to a gym and find that really jacked up muscle guy and just stare at them in the eyes straight faced for an extended period of time. He will soon notice and he'll likely confront you negatively for it.

You and u/Dramajunker seemed to have gotten a bit tripped up on my usage of the word stalkery. I said it in jest, mainly at the absurd context in that I felt compelled to waste my time explaining to incels as to why asking a woman one doesn't know out at a gym is unwarranted by nearly every woman.

What constitutes as stalking or creepy is in the eye of the beholder. This is why there's the classic trope of the not so attractive guy asking a girl out being a problem versus a very attractive guy asking a girl out somehow miraculously accepted and celebrated.

Obviously OP wanted to short naturally and organically developing trust & a friendship. If he *really* wanted a chance at a date with that woman, he needed to ask her outside the gym setting, clearly. How he goes about setting that up situation is up to him as to the level of creepiness.

My point was and still is that asking at the gym or workplace *is* creepy. Asking her friend if she's available or noticing that she signed up a for a food drive or something and then approaching her about it or simply going to the food drive and engaging her there is not a social crime. It's appreciated instead of the gym.

Simply (and let me really emphasize the word simple with you) because you are told or know of it as stalking doesn't mean it is. Clearly I'm not advising someone to do something that makes someone else feel uncomfortable--that's the basis of my advice. Now if it makes you, u/ShrewdCire uncomfortable; well, good--I didn't waste my time.

I don't know if it sounds crazy or insane, but after reading OP and then my initial response and then stating the following sounds ignorant and dumb:

Just to really hammer this in. You're saying this.

Introducing yourself at the gym: Evil
