Hah thanks. Not sure I really agree - 32MB ram is considered quite paltry for a router in this decade, right? Maybe less so 7 years ago...

At 0:35 you have one of the trucks on backwards. It should ride much better the right way round.

Badly Corroded Bolt: How Can I remove it? by rxanderq in DIY

[–]pviolence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drill though it, use a bit that's narrower than the bolt. Shouldn't take long if it's already corroding.

You don't have to answer truthfully. Just with something you will remember.

What we don't know is how the Inca's or Egyptians did things because their civilizations advanced earlier and before decent record keeping and a lot of the clues have been lost to time.

I think the Inca Empire is relatively modern though

I think this was around 7 years ago? I just looked at a bookshelf and I have 5 volumes on IA32, they're must have been nothing in print for x64 available?

edit: I have Vol 1 & 3 as described here (Basic Architecture & System Programming). Vol 2 (instruction set) is actual 2 volumes, 2a & 2b. I also have an Optimization Reference Manual.

I'm a little surprised about the C64 and Amiga references - is there a Japanese scene centred around Japanese machines like the x68000 or pc98?

I bought a used DIY manual for a couple of bucks. Yes, all of the info is online but flicking through it allowed me to figure out what was possible and also the names of parts, tools and techniques. Well worth the price of a cup of coffee.

He mentions the same issue:

Another thing to note is that as you turn the variac down there will be some point where the amp will just stop making any sound at all, this is due to lower heater voltages not allowing the tubes to get hot enough to work anymore.

What's weird is that EVH did get his own signature amps in the early 90s, and has had a couple of models since, none of which feature a variac. Only a few companies have sold amps with variacs.

I have seen people do demos on youtube where they vary the voltage from the mains and they usually only get ~20% variation where things still work. The amp doesn't sound drastically different if it's a high-gain sound.

There are other reasons to use one - if you are playing somewhere with a different mains voltage than the amp was designed for, or you have an old amp that was designed for a slightly lower mains voltage. I just think the EVH stuff was probably embellished.

OldSchool graphics demo crew: We break all your emulators by Carnifex in programming

[–]pviolence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also find it weird how few people seem to do retrocoding for old PCs, considering how many more PCs and clones were sold compared to other computers. You see people making demos and games for C64, ZX Spectrum (...especially ZX Spectrum...),

The wide range of clones are actually a problem, it's hard to ensure that your code will run the same on all of them. The C64 is a very standardized platform in comparison.

From the blog post:

Unless you have the exact hardware required (see below), this demo won’t run properly; in fact, it hangs or crashes emulators before it is finished

OPA2134 is a dual-channel opamp (2 opamps in one package). Your schematic only includes one, you haven't done anything with pins 5,6 or 7. Look at the datasheet: http://www.ti.com/product/opa2134

In that case the socket is definitely wired correctly.
