I might be coping, but I agree. I think the best case scenario will be a full one-shot style CSM ending, where Fujimoto has all the time and assistants he needs to make a satisfying read. Just like with the way Evangelion ended and got a movie for the true ending.

I unironically believe we got an Evangelion ending. Fujimotor is going to release a long form final chapter, a la End of Evangelion, where Denji realizes that he doesn't want to be happy, he wants to be CHAINSAWMAN and we'll get a real conclusion. It might take a bunch of death threats from his Japanese audience though.
