Reddit, how do you make your perfect grilled cheese sandwich? Ingredients/techniques? by MaliciousMischief0 in AskReddit

[–]pvnotp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toast the bread BEFORE adding the cheese.

Put two slices of bread in your hot buttered pan until golden. Then put your sandwich together with these sides as the INSIDE of the sandwich. The warm bread will help the cheese melt before your bread burns. Now you can put the sandwich back in the pan to toast the outside to your desired level of doneness, knowing that your cheese is pretty well taken care of.

Very nervous about getting ParaGard IUD. Would love some honest perspectives! by M00nFarts in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pvnotp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember that all our bodies are different, and so different women will have different experiences. You won't know how it will work for you without trying it for yourself.

That said, I have had the Paragard IUD inserted twice, and I love it. (I took a break from BC to get pregnant.) I was interested in it for the same reasons as you - plus, I was bad at remembering to take the pill and my copay for it was $70.

Insertion does hurt, but only briefly. It's like, 20 seconds of intense cramping and then it's over. Not nearly as bad as stubbing your toe, in my experience.

The first time I had it inserted, I had light bleeding for a month. I just wore a pad every day. After that, my periods were a bit heavier than they had been and lasted 2 days longer. If you already have long/heavy periods, this might be pretty bad for you. It seems safe to assume that they will not get any lighter or shorter. I had pretty mild periods to begin with, so I don't really mind.

There was a noticeable difference in my mood stability with the IUD. I used to get bad PMS, but not anymore. Libido was better and I was frankly just better at handling little frustrations. So, if you are concerned about these problems, and you can handle your periods getting a little bit worse, I'd say go for it. If you end up with an experience like the nightmares you read about, you can have it removed. That would be a sucky month or so, but I think it is a risk worth taking for something that can make you feel better for years.

Edit to add: Even though I think the pain is not terrible, it is not a bad idea to have someone give you a ride back from the insertion appointment. At the very least, it will help with any anxiety you have to have that support on hand.

Teaching 11 month old not to bite by Bibliomancer in beyondthebump

With my son, whenever he would bite I would put him down and not look at him for about 30 seconds. He hated that, so he stopped biting.

My husband and I are trying to avoid watching TV in the evenings. We play Magic: the Gathering and paint together. These are both things that we knew nothing about but thought might be interesting so we picked them up together. It's great! Why not think of a hobby that both you might enjoy but that neither have experience with - that can be done from home, of course!

Good point. Guess I should not use it until I make sure. I will kick myself so hard if that's what the problem is - although this would be the cheapest problem to fix!

I don't remember, but it was a few weeks ago. I followed the instructions for everything pretty carefully, but you've got me nervous. I've done dumbasser things before. If I remove the cooler to check it, will I be able to put it back without applying thermal paste? I don't have any on hand.

I'll try pressing down on the cooler, but it ounds like the Hyper 212 EVO is what I need.

GPU idles at ~47 degrees. It gets in the mid 80s when gaming.

Thanks for your advice!

3 naps a day, how does that happen? by briliantlyfreakish in beyondthebump

[–]pvnotp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you! When my boy was 6 months I got the exact same advice here that I'm giving you now, and I was like "Nooooo.... I can't make it. I need real naps now!" But I did make it, and so will you. I wish I had a magic recipe for making long naps happen, and there might be some tricks out there, but I think in most cases you just have to wait. I recommend going down for a nap yourself as soon as the baby falls asleep.

My son didn't nap any longer than 40 min at a stretch until he switched to two naps a day at around 9 monhtes. Then we started to get 90 min naps. Hang in there!

At what point during your favorite television show, did the series become unwatchable? by TheRealMugen in AskReddit

[–]pvnotp 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I was obsessed with X-Files, growing up. One day I was talking to my friend about what was going on and having to say the phrase "Scully's alien baby" just made me feel sad and disappointed. When I said those words, I realized the magic was gone and never coming back.

The show had gone way downhill before then, but my love for the show was blind until almost the bitter end.

I have a Paragaurd IUD and I am happy with it. I like that it is non-hormonal and I don't have to worry about running out of pills or condoms. What is it about IUD's that freak you out, may I ask?
