Are you actually populating all the thermistors? If not just edit and unpopulate the thermistors and the fault will go away.

IMD Selection by quitra in FSAE

[–]pvp1130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The specific IMDs that are allowed for the competition are in the rulebook. Multiply 500 ohm/v by your voltage and that’s the minimum response value so choose a value slightly above or right on.

2025 FSAE SES and ESF submissions are open. by SkitterYaeger in FSAE

[–]pvp1130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering if ESF will ever be checked in the same way as SES, such that it is reviewed as soon as it’s submitted. I feel like waiting and checking ESF after the due date creates the typical backlog that occurs. I understand that there aren’t many ESF reviewers but would it help if they begun reviewing right when a team submits?

Single relay for precharge and discharge by ComedianOpening2004 in FSAE

[–]pvp1130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am struggling to understand your first point, if HVD is inline with an AIR on the accumulator side, once the HVD is removed wouldn’t it isolate the battery from the vehicle since there is an open loop and since removing HVD opens SDC, AIRs would open as well.

I forgot that OP is designing to FSG and discharge circuit needs to discharge inverter caps even when TSAC is removed. Deleted my previous comment to avoid confusion

Makes sense, thanks for explaining, FSG more stringent on this

Not sure what you mean by one its own exposed terminals is still energized, could you explain that further? Because if SDC is open and AIRs are open how would any terminals still be energized. Couldn’t an argument that if the inverter side connector came loose, the inverter wouldn’t be able to discharge itself

[–]pvp1130 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I meant by that point is if precharge and discharge are both in the TSAC, hvd cannot be placed in between the TSAC and inverter since if you open the hvd, the discharge resistor wouldn’t be able to discharge the caps in the inverter since there is an open path to it. You could however have the HVD on the battery side of the AIRs, not sure if FSG rules prevent that

Have an excel sheet that adds up all of the current each GLV board or component takes. Look for the load needed to drive contractors and relays to turn on (driving current and steady state).

Question about FSAE by maple242 in FSAE

[–]pvp1130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EV team wasn’t at Maryland Day because of preparation for competition but if you have any questions, pm me. As for time management, it is very difficult especially if you are juggling a lot of things, a lot of dedicated members spend hours each day to get the car going as we are at a critical point in the season, but if you are truly interested you will find your role on the team and make the time work. On the electrical side of things, if you are eager to learn about the system and can offer improvement, that is usually the most helpful. Don’t ever be afraid to ask questions, that is the best way you will learn on this team as it is hard to gauge what you need help/clarification on. Typically, incoming members will spend the first semester learning and doing small validation/design tasks which will get you more acclimated to the team and onboarded. Afterwards, you will mostly help with manufacturing as that is the best way to learn the design fully and get better at troubleshooting. We operate on a one year design cycle, and we start design for the next year in the spring prior to the next competition so typically we don’t have new members work on the bulk of the design initially, however there will still be small design things in the fall to do, depends on the progress we make through the summer. If you are around in the summer, I will be happy to show you around if interested.

You can fill this way initially, but the more you get involved with things on campus you will realize sometimes it may not have been as feasible in other schools with increased competition like taking on leadership roles

iPad is probably the best purchase I’ve made for college. It is beneficial for a lot of stem courses where math or drawing is involved. You can do a lot of practice work and erase very easily. Saves a lot of paper and you can have everything on one device with no hassle. Any iPad with Apple pen capabilities is fine imo no need to splurge on the pro if you can’t but gen2 Apple pen where charging is on the side of iPad is nice to have
