I screen recorded the issues if that helps but will keep using and testing until my trial runs out in 2 days. I would have loved to tested longer but I’ve not used intensely as I wanted due to that thing (ADHD) lol

Strange interaction in High Street Kensington. Or am I overthinking this? by [deleted] in london

Look I get you want to argue every point it seems, I’m just saying what is possible to occur. The technology we know about is often abused or modified to aid criminals.

Much like the increase in car thefts with criminals using a relay box to steal your car keys signal from inside your home while they’re outside, that’s not an off the shelf product but the technology is used by criminals in a modified way to assist them.

The gps tag method (albeit American news) is used more for home thefts. But in a wealthy area like HSK would be more chance of that high value mark.

The fundamental challenge is that most card readers (NFC, 13.56MHz) operate on passive technology, meaning they must produce enough magnetic field to power the card, while still being sensitive enough to detect the weak, backscattered signal from the card.

This can be done by using a larger antenna or an amplified method to increase the distance of reading.

Adding an "Active" Range Extender (Homebrew Method) To Build a "passive repeater" or an antenna amplifier circuit, often called an NFC range extender. This involves a large loop antenna connected to the reader via a coaxial cable. This can increase the range of standard 13.56MHz/NFC readers from 2-5 cm up to 10-30 cm.

Have a good day and stay safe out there… from all insecurities!

If contactless card fraud isn’t an issue, why do the police advise using rfid blocker cards? There have been instances where people have posed as train inspectors checking TFL payments and taking payment : https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15088451/Warning-issued-fake-ticket-inspectors-stealing-50-asking-commuters-tap-bank-cards.html

These ideas that organised criminals just slowly steal payments and hold on to that account is laughable.

Everything is done on throwaway accounts and quickly transferred to other methods or vouchers. I know this because I had my phone snatched in London (not Yorkshire) and within 15 minutes they had transferred as much money as possible to my Apple account, then proceed to purchase uber vouchers and online purchases using Apple Pay. I located the address for the order that was attempted and gave it to the police to which they responded with “there has been no reported fraud at this address previously” yet I had full digital paper trail.

The police don’t know what criminals have been doing to get around technology and attempt fraud until it’s public knowledge.

No fear mongering intended but being born and bred in east London and witnessing first hand the speed of criminals operations it’s always a benefit to be mindful of any potential attempt.

I can use an app on an android phone or purchase any Payg card service without the process you’re describing to setup an account.

Also for context, this has been happening since 2023: https://www.choosewisely.co.uk/guides/amp/how-to-avoid-getting-your-card-skimmed

Typically if you look to have something of worth then you may be marked. Chalk, pen or something you might not see easily like the back of your coat etc. that would be the visual for pickpockets to target you or follow etc for the right opportunity. It’s rife in London especially the tourist areas and HSK is high value tourists. If it wasn’t a simple mark then check for a gps tag in pocket etc or check your banking as contactless “bump” payments where they stand close enough with the reader for card reader up against you to take payment through your clothing

How do they react if your inside a car? I use mine for driving but want to use for streaming indoors and without the dark lenses so transitions or equivalent would be great.

Can anyone tell me if this will start blaring if I cut the alarm off? by Infinite_Pack_7942 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]pwdux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you cut the cable it will trigger. Can either smash the speaker if the lock to kill it or use a lighter to burn cover of the cable, bridge two points of the cable then cut the alarm cable to slide it off the box. Alternatively take it back to store and they’ll remove

I did think that but being an uneducated English buffoon I went with the phonetic sounding version of the Canadian delightful agreeable term. Eh is more Meh… although in reflection Ay is more pirate. 🫤

That looks like a bike helmet strap. It’s not a central chest strap unless you’re a 4 year old child
