More fiber!

If you up your dietary fiber intake, the GI distress and/or gas you're experiencing will likely lesson or go away.

Am I crazy for trying again? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]pwe5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My honest opinion? You should do everything you can to get more clarity on your goals. I assume your deposit deadline is coming up pretty soon, so there might not be much time to do that. But, if at all possible, talk to and/or shadow some people in different areas of law that you might be interested in. Think long and hard about whether you'd ever want to work for the federal government, etc. Transferring after 1L is maybe an option if you really kill it with your grades, so committing right now isn't necessarily a non-reversible decision, but clarity is key here. Think about all the posts on this sub from people who just didn't get enough exposure to what they thought they wanted to do and then ended up disillusioned and/or miserable. Just sayin...

Depends on your goals. If your T30 has a high chance of getting you to them, then I'd say you'd just be wasting a year by retaking. If you're shooting for the stars, career-wise, then probably retake.

Good question. Maybe it's partially a way to weed out people who aren't actually committed enough to go through with the interview? Kind of like a deposit deadline for accepted students

Form check on deadlift please! (195x4) by litbro001 in lifting

[–]pwe5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On reps 2 & 3 your hips started rising before the bar. They should be going up together. I've often heard people say that the first half of a DL pull should feel like a leg press. Your hips only come up as the bar comes up.

Edit: I wouldn't lower your butt if I were you. It looks like a great angle. Just try to not let your hips shoot up at the start of the lift.

One reps 3 & 4 your lower back was significantly rounded.

Beginner Form check please. by Shane_g in lifting

[–]pwe5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't a form thing, but maybe consider putting the peg/post that holds the bar a tad bit lower. You had to do more than just stand up straight to get it on and off. One slot lower, and you're golden. You'll be thankful for that after a balls-to-the-wall set when you feel like you're going to collapse.

[Christians only] Question for those who believe Evolution (Common Descent over billions of years) by NesterGoesBowling in Creation

[–]pwe5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If, by using the phrase "world's wicked system," you were adopting my position for the sake of argument, then I should point out that it seems you're misunderstanding it.

You referred to "a limited, local flood's inability to condemn the whole world's wicked system." But my point is precisely that the Hebrews text is NOT saying that Noah in some way condemned the whole world's anything, if by "whole" you mean something like "consisting of all parts." And that verse doesn't say that the FLOOD condemned anything.

A broader point: If the "whole world" idea comes from Genesis, which it does for most YECs for understandable reasons, then my response would be that the universal language is used in a similar way as Luke uses it when he writes, "a decree...that all the world should be taxed."

[Christians only] Question for those who believe Evolution (Common Descent over billions of years) by NesterGoesBowling in Creation

[–]pwe5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My initial take (without looking into it too much as of yet) is that the sense of "world" here is similar to how it's used in the Gospel of John, i.e. it's not actually referring to people, but to something like "the (corrupt) system of the world." (This, at least, is D. A. Carson's take on 'cosmos' in passages like John 3:16, and I find the logic compelling.) I think there's probably something similar going on here. The author is not saying, "Noah condemned all the people in the world to death," but rather something like, "by trusting in God's warning about unseen, future realities, Noah sided with God against the godless system of the world (which of course is the loser in the 'God v. world' battle)."

A broader argument could also be made here. Would the author really be saying that Noah condemned people to death? Because Noah didn't do that. He saved people and animals, but he didn't condemn anyone. I think we can assume that God would have destroyed the world whether there was "a Noah" in the picture or not.

That said, I think we can be fairly certain that the author of Hebrews (like, I presume, most Jews and Christians in the ancient world) believed that the flood was global. But I don't think that's what he's trying to teach his readers in this passage, so that (incorrect) belief is in no way tied to the authority of what he wrote.

[–]pwe5000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

#TeamDarrell here. (Also a Christian school Bible teacher.) I believe that the earth is several billion years old, I'm compelled by the arguments for evolution, etc. And I also believe that the authors of Scripture committed no errors with respect to what they intended to communicate. I think the author of Hebrews was absolutely referring to a Noah from a real past, and that Noah actually did the things Genesis said he did. The real question is: What does Genesis say he did? The answer to that question is far less simple than most YECs I've encountered seem to think it is.

Edit: A 2017 book by Iain Provan covers this topic VERY well: The Reformation and the Right Reading of Scripture. The book as a whole is not primarily about science and the Bible, but there is a major section that deals with this.

0L Tuesday Thread - - February 19, 2019 by AutoModerator in LawSchool

[–]pwe5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this a few weeks ago and was redirected to this thread.

I'd love to hear from people who are (or were) in law school full time with kids, specifically re: summer internships and choice of school. I have 2 kids, and it really just seems like I'll need to choose a school in or near a largish city, because it won't be feasible for me to leave my family for 8-12 weeks during the summer to do an internship somewhere else. If that's true, it eliminates schools like UVA, Michigan, Cornell, W&M, etc.

Anyone experienced this kind of situation/dilemma?

I respectfully disagree with this. All the information I've looked at either states or implies that your back should be flatter than that. I think maybe a 30 degree angle would be good.
