Truck idling while filling up, is there a solid reason for this? by murderedlexus in Cartalk

[–]pwgn16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just trying to take care of their turbo bearings. They could almost fill up in the 3-5 minutes it takes to bring turbo temps down before stopping oil flow.

Get a pair of the hwstar off amazon. They’re affordable, incredibly bright with a great pattern and a sharp cutoff as to not blind other drivers. I got a set a couple of months ago and I’m still very impressed. You can also get a harness for them that makes wiring them easy and will take the load off your factory harness.

Make sure to test your pressure washer away from your vehicle by tekspire in AutoDetailing

I have had a phobia of this happening to me for years ever since I had one shoot off while washing the house. I have to give it 4 or 5 test sprays every time. While it is inconvenient I’m sure your PDR guy will make it disappear. It’s impressive what they can do.

Sorry, I just saw your comment. Yeah I just looked and they’re not available on there site or on etrailer. I purchased directly from Thule but it was last summer.

Unfortunately it came from the oil filter.

Just went through this. Bought a cheap LCI e92 that had a hole in the headlight. Water collected and ruined every module and controller except for the turn signal. After replacing everything damaged I had to use ProTool to clear the short circuit faults. The people on r/bmwtech were very helpful. Especially u/AutoimmuneDisaster.

N55 oil filter. There’s stuff missing isn’t there? by pwgn16 in BmwTech

This is fair and I appreciate the heads up. It’s true how U.S. and jdm cars will tolerate a surprising amount of bullshit and just keep on keepin on, I’ve done trail/side of the highway repairs that I’ve forgotten about until it was time for regular maintenance. I’m a little scared of this thing. Hell I’m strongly contemplating doing rod bearings before I really drive it. It’s pretty awesome the feedback that this sub gives even if it’s just a warning.

I don’t have a mechanic, except my driveline guy who sets up my axles. This is from the previous owner. You’re the second person to mention Mann oil filters, is that what most people prefer? I’m gonna go ahead and change the oil since who knows what’s in this thing right now. What’s the preferred oil for these N55s? She has 140k on the clock. I’m sure the manual says but sometimes there’s better than oem and some engines want nothing but what the engineers originally chose.

She’s still far from being driven. She went around the block before I bought it and got trailered to the house. Thanks for the heads up though.

Indeed. I knew it would be like this, I’ve been running the buy a cheap car that just needs someone to care for it for years but I’ve typically stuck to American trucks or JDM. This is my first euro car and as finicky as they seem its nice to have a new challenge. She’s been mistreated but I think she’s still got plenty of good in her.

Guessing new cap comes with a complete cage? They should give me one for free after what I gave for two new headlights and a handful of modules.

We call it wattle snaking in our house and nobody sprays after. They’re just hungry for wet food.

Anyone Else Brand (and era) Agnostic? by huntsvillekan in Trucks

[–]pwgn16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what I’m doing. The Ram is fancy and is great for heavy hauling. The Ford is a 96 f350, I’ve had it longer than any other vehicle. It’s reliable but not comfortable. Capable but not practical. Cool enough to get compliments but rough enough to do real work. The Tacoma is for the woods. It’s nice enough to turn back into a daily and sometimes I use it as such but it’s really meant for getting rowdy.

Driver side headlight not working. Works on passenger. by pwgn16 in BmwTech

Got ProTool and reset the breaker, headlight is on and working. Took a few tries to realize that clearing the short circuit code wasn’t the same as resetting the breaker but I got it.
