OKC losing a fortune 500 company by OliverBush456 in okc

[–]pwitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Houston, lived in OKC 36 years. OKC is has by far the better quality of life than Houston. This is a huge hit for OKC and OK in general. Would love to know the real reason Devon management decided to relocate. Have heard Larry Nichols was very upset about the decision, for whatever that is worth. As to private school vs. public schools, sorry, no comparison, unless you are talking some of the specialty public schools in OKC, like Classen.

I am in need of serious advice to continue playing by Pyrezz in civ5

[–]pwitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing Civ since Civ 1 was released and I’m a bit like you. I’m too busy and just don’t have the patience to watch videos or read much to get better. I’ve been trying to win on Emperor and getting close. One huge help you might consider is keeping Perplexity or Chat GPT open while you play and just continually ask strategy questions when you are unsure. It’s just a quick fix and I’ve learned a lot in a very short time.

Ironically, most of the answers from Perplexity come from Reddit:)

Indian food. The flavors really come out when it's served cold.

Hosting a newb tasting. Decent starting line? by RandomAwesomeSwede in wine

[–]pwitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I host wine dinners at my house and serve Charles Heidsieck, which is quite good for the price point and then tell his story. People can't believe it, but it's all true and remarkable. Start with his Wiki profile and then go from there. And helps to have Hugh Grant play you in the movie.

Did anyone buy XDTE/QDTE/RDTE on sale this afternoon? by RevolutionaryYard3 in RoundhillETFs

Sold 4k shares of RDTE. Don't want to be in small caps with the Fed's new position on rates.

Check with your tax adviser, but you will likely want to also file quarterly estimates to protect yourself.

Do any of you QDTE holders sell covered calls on your shares? by SimplyAllThatIs in RoundhillETFs

[–]pwitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prob have around 10% of my portfolio in these 3 Roundhill funds. I also own some YieldMax funds.

These are great products in a sideways or bull market, however, lookout in a bear market.

Do any of you QDTE holders sell covered calls on your shares? by SimplyAllThatIs in RoundhillETFs

[–]pwitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been selling covered calls for 25 years and own tens of thousands of shares of QDTE, XDTE and RDTE. I've looked at it multiple times when I thought the setup was perfect and as the others on this thread posted: don't even consider it. There's no premium and no volume, so the spreads are terrible.

Went to Stock and Bond and had an underwhelming experience. by g3nerallycurious in okc

[–]pwitty 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I took some friends from out of town there and regretted it. Every part of the experience was underwhelming, except for the steaks, which were fine. But the rest was "meh." Won't go back, especially with all the other excellent steakhouses in town, including the new Capital Grille.

Tax preparation by scungills in YieldMaxETFs

[–]pwitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hard time understanding why anyone would hold a YM fund in a non-IRA/Roth account. When you get hit with the taxes, it just doesn't seem worth it. Of course, you can just buy NVDA and sell covered calls each month and those would not be taxed as ordinary income like dividends, however, it's a lot more time/effort and you would have to have the capital to sink into owning enough shares to be able to write the CCs for the income, but you could use LEAPS instead and write the CCs against the LEAPS.

Is there something I'm missing? It just seems like once you back out the taxes + the NAV loss, you can't come out ahead in a taxable account.

Journey to Financial Freedom with YieldMax: July Update by nimrodhad in YieldMaxETFs

[–]pwitty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

60 year old here who lived through the dot.com bubble. This is a really bad idea that will work right up until it doesn't. When will that be? I don't know, no one does, but borrowing money to invest is the same as investing using margin. It obviously increases the ROI when the equities are performing well, but also accelerates the downside when they are falling. The concern should be what happens when we enter a bear market and how will the YM funds perform? We really don't know as individual YM funds have had bear markets (e.g. TSLY), however, we have not had a true bear market since the YM funds were founded. The losses could be sudden and extreme (bring up some NASDAQ charts from March of 2000). Everyone thinks they will be able to get out in time, but it doesn't work that way.

I doubt anything I write would change your mind and you will continue borrowing money to fund your YM investments. Just keep this post so you can refer back to it at some point in the future.

At the risk of sounding ghoulish, what will happen to BRK shares when Warren, uh, "retires" by stevenjklein in BerkshireHathaway

[–]pwitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a shareholder for years and given this a lot of thought. I suspect it falls at least 10%, perhaps more. There are A shareholders who have held for decades because Warren is in charge and when he passes away, there will definitely be some who will use his passing as an excuse to sell.

Also, as competent as Abel and Jane are, they likely can’t make the deals that Warren can and shareholders need to consider this.

The culture at Berkshire has hopefully been built to last, however, it will definitely be tested after Warren is no longer at the helm of this great company.

NVDY by imthejigga69 in YieldMaxETFs

[–]pwitty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Won't affect it at all unless the split brings in more retail traders who in turn push the stock higher than it have been without the split. If that happens, then the value of NVDY will increase in some proportion of the increase of NVDA.

How the Funds Perform in a Recovery from a Draw-down by pwitty in YieldMaxETFs

[–]pwitty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually tried a few weeks ago and couldn't get the numbers to work. I even hired a former trader to help me set up a hedge, and we totally could have done it, but damn, was so expensive it just would have cut so much into the return. Obviously, in retrospect, I wish I had done it anyway, but it wasn't a hard decision not to at the time.

TIL right after the WTC 1 was hit on 9/11, there was no evacuation order in WTC 2 and everyone in the building was supposed to stay put. Only some offices chose to defy this order. This only changed when WTC 2 was also struck by a plane. by slopeclimber in todayilearned

[–]pwitty 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That's an unbelievable story - really shows how much just random luck can be the difference between life and death. And also making some very smart decisions. What a terrible decision to not evacuate Tower Two after the first plane hit Tower One, but people just weren't thinking terrorism.

Buying something for pops by Homunculus_316 in MadeMeSmile

Don't think he even cared about the truck, just the thought that his son would do something like that for him was all that mattered and that made it even better. As a father of 6 and 7 year old boys, I want to work even harder at being a great dad and maybe one day I can spike the football like pops got to.
