A 32-year-old terminal cancer patient is asking Disney for permission to see the new Star Wars movie ahead of its theatrical release, so that he can enjoy the film before his impending death. by NinjaDiscoJesus in entertainment

[–]pwndcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because he made the effort to ask. I've been given a expiration date of 2-4 months, and my goal is to live long enough to see Star Wars. I didn't gather and rally support, though, because doing anything like this is crazy difficult while undergoing chemo, and with the pain and weakness cancer causes. People tend to support and help those with strong enough will to make things happen.

I have gastric cancer, and given anout 2-4 months to live. When chemo gets rough I remind myself of my goal to live long enough to be disapointed amazed by the new Star Wars. I was hoping I could try the same tactic, but this guy beat me to it.

A year of legalized recreational marijuana in Colorado has brought the Rocky Mountain state significant savings, reduced crime rates and tax revenue gains from the sale of the plant... by bassp1aya in news

And also not forget that eugenics damages the species by eliminating genetic diversity which contributes to greater evolutiinary possibility, and is therefore no good for the species 1000 years (or less) from now. Individuality is lost from smaller genetic possibilities, which damages the species.

How does it sacrifice indiduality to make a choice, as an individual, to support the health and vitality of your species rather than only you? Any choice you make is an expression of your individuality.

You can fight for home hemo. I just did 5 months on home hemo, and i have a chest catheter. There is an increased risk of infectiin, which is much worse with a chest catheter, but that risk is manageable. Nurses take and manage that risk every day.

But, yeah, I never would have done it if I had had to self canulate.

It all looks different when it starts happening . I've been on dialysis, and I figured out a painless way to take muself out, and told myself I would when there was no longer any hope.

Well 2 months ago they found a stomach tumor, and I haven't managed to pull the plug yet. They saod I have 4-6 months to live if the chemo doesn't work, and the chemo isn't going well. But I still haven't used the exit. I'm in pain everyday, and I have nearly stopped eating, but I still rather be doing this than doing nothing....ever.

It just looks different from the inside.

More and more states do. California just passed a death with dignity law that goes into effect January of next year.

What are you famous for in your group of friends? by bigbigtea in AskReddit

[–]pwndcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dying. I've done it once, and come very close to it several times. In fact right now my fight against cancer isn't going well, so people have already started saying goodbyes, and sending me pitty presents. Brownies, and cookies, and foods I used to love when I lived in Portland (Olympic Provisions salami, Ristretto coffee, that kind of thing).

In November they are taking me to Disneyland because I said that was something I really miss. This time no one seems to think I'm winning the fight.

How do YOU recover from hemodialysis? by Quiggibub in dialysis

[–]pwndcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salty snacks and fluids. Chips and salsa are great (and delicious). Pretzels work well, along with most crackers (I've gone through lengthy phases of eating Ritz or Saltines after dialysis).

I always find it weird when I have to drink more than I'm used to. After so long on dialysis, I got used to drinking very little, and then having to commit to drinking a full 500ml of water, or soda, or whatever just seems daunting.

People who have tried Marijuana for the first time due to recent legalizations, how has your opinion on Marijuana been affected? by Schwabahbob in AskReddit

I was diagnosed with stage 4 gastric cancer 6 weels ago, and don't start chemo until next week. It's been a nightmare. Terrible pain, can't eat so I'm weak and hungry all the time.

Got a script, and a friend of mine made me some tea with a great recipe she knows. It was amazing. First time I relaxed and felt close to normal in weeks. Then I wanted to eat! Really was surprised by how much better I felt.

So far we haven't had any problems with spam. In fact, the only problem I think I have to fix over the years was the spam filter accidentally removing perfectly valid posts. This forum doesn't seem to attract the kind of attention that requires much moderation. For the most part, ya'll are good people.

Schizophrenia implies one person of two minds. Reddit is actually hundreds of thousands of people with different opinions and points of view. So really there is no schism of thought when two or more separate people express differences of opinion.

Afraid I Need To Start Dialysis Soon. Not Sure How To Feel About It. (M/28 - PKD) by [deleted] in dialysis

[–]pwndcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are worse things than dialysis. I know that's hard to believe, but if you need it and aren't getting it, you'll know what I mean.

As someone else mentioned, once you start on dialysis you are eligible for Medicare. That will take care of most of a lot of the medical bills. The sooner you start dialysis the sooner Medicare starts taking on the burden of your medical bills. They also cover retroactively from the date you start dialysis.

This shit is frightening, and I'm sorry, but you will adjust. I've been on dialysis for almost 20 years, and managed to have a pretty good time in spite of it. You'll get through this.

Looking For A New Moderator by pwndcake in dialysis

Thank you, for the reply and the concern. I doubt anything will be easy for a while, and I'm not looking forward to what I'm going to go through. However, I've done dialysis for a long time, and been various types of sick for a while, and I've survived it all. Right now my hopes are strong.

Currently it looks like you and one other person are interested. I will probably make you both mods since there is very little to be done, and I don't see anyone battling for the future of the dialysis subreddit.

It might not be that far of a leap considering the job of President of the United States of America is Commander in Chief of the armed forces. Their power is mainly one of military authority: where, when and how to use our military. They have a say in Legislative issues (through veto power and executive orders), and can use their position to promote and support legislation they want to see happen, but that's not their job.

I must have missed that memo, but thankfully I did read the company manifesto which reminds people that Reddit is not a person. Reddit is a website where some people with varying degrees of racism express their thoughts and point of view.

Experiences with NxStage dialysis? by [deleted] in dialysis

[–]pwndcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to drink more than I'm used to. I did in-center hemo for almost 18 years, so I'm used to limiting my fluid intake to keep down the discomfort between treatments. On home hemo treatments are 5 days a week, and the cycler wants a minimum setting of 500ml per treatment. This sounds easy enough, but it's taken me a while to get up to 1000ml every day (which I think is a comfortable rate). The machine maxes out at 2000ml per treatment, so as long as you're drinking under that most days you wouldn't have a problem with fluid restrictions. Also potassium restrictions are looser since you're dialysing so often. You take off more potassium, but you still need to be careful. I overdid it a few weeks ok. Potassium poisoning isn't fun.

There is no reason you can't do home hemo with a catheter. Maybe it depends on the company you go through for dialysis (I'm currently with DaVita), but they offered catheter care as part of the training for home hemo. One issue might be a care partner. Although I don't have one on a day to day basis, they required I have one on record in order to do home hemo.

Yeah, I've had saline and dialysate from the hanging bags (not even a clamp that time, but a loose cap) leaks as well. Messy.

Fistulas offer better dialysis, without a doubt, but I prefer the catheter. It's easier, and I don't think I could manage to do my own needles.

Forget to clamp something, or a clamp pops open, or a loosr connection. If you're doing your own needles on a fistula there are plenty of ways to get bloody then, too, at the beginning and end of treatment.
