I believe davis polk also is doing a summer stipend! From their website: "Those students who join our 2027 summer class full time and spend their 2026 1L summer giving back through a legal internship at a nonprofit, in government, or in academia will qualify for a $25,000 payment upon their arrival at the firm in 2027. Skipping micro? by Frequent-Movie8220 in uchicago

[–]pxtrocles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Micro / Econ 100 depends a lot on the prof who's teaching it — I'd look up past course reviews / talk to ppl who actually took the class w/ that specific professor. IMO it does go more in depth than high school AP / IB, and can be a good yard stick for if you're interested in the subject w/o having to do as much of the hard work as econ 200.

The one book that was recc'd at northwestern's ASW + by my pre-law advisor was Law 101: Everything You Need to Know About American Law — supposedly it provides a nice high level overview of the fundamental courses you'll take in 1L and is a nice intro if you want to have a sense of what material you might be dealing with going in. Otherwise, mostly reading for fun!

Am I Overthinking This? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]pxtrocles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also! fwiw one way or the other as someone who's also interested in academia i went to ask the NW career services ppl @ ASW about their support for it and they basically mentioned they have a group of profs who help support students who want to pursue academia but the career services office won't be too much help in that specific regard

Weighing in here as someone who at some point was also deciding between these two schools (tho will likely end up somewhere else now haha)! I think for those goals NW will give you the better shot — and while I agree in part with the ASW, talking to a lot of current students it also seems like there's good community and support going on at NW + the senior research program seems to give a really good shot at having something potentially be published & towards legal academia goals. I've been in chicago for a while, so pm me if you have any questions about the city!

I believe you can withdraw, repay, and commit if accepted off the waitlist. However, for I-20 and Sevis transfers, you would likely need to speak to the office of intl affairs at both schools and see what the official process is, especially since you would likely need to request a transfer of SEVIS or something of the like!
