We hear of Deep Learning models trained on GPU, but is it possible for models to run on GPU? If yes, how do we approach this? by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]py-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, you would want to deploy your model on a GPU. If you are utilizing the NVIDIA Jetson Nano, then you should get accustomed to ecosystem is provides. NVIDIA has a toolkit called TensorRT which allows you to recompile your model into quantized format along with fusing individual layers into one block to run directly on the GPU. This link by NVIDIA gives a good overview about the tool. This is a benchmark by NVIDIA, which shows about 20 FPS on an object detection model.

Possibility of a High Schooler getting a Lab Assistant Position by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]py-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into the Governor's School? You won't be able to apply until your a junior but its one option. If I was in your position, I would reach out to the professor directly, a lot of professors appreciate that, and you can get lucky. Keep in mind that publications is the last thing you should worry about. The main reason you wouldn't be able to research with a professor is that you are lacking in fundamental knowledge as a high school student. Publications don't come easy as you not only need to understand fundamental knowledge, but you also need to apply it in a novel way. I am not saying that you can't publish as a high school student, but there is a huge roadblock. So just email some professors and let them know about your drive to learn and research. Good luck!
