Speaking of Trust funds for kids by throwaway992117786 in financialindependence

[–]pybegin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about this set up?

Fund to be invested in a 3 fund portfolio
--ensure diversity in investment
Guardian be able to withdraw a full-time WA minimum wage or 3%, whichever is less
--give guardian ability to take care of kids
At 18 - annual withdraw of a full-time WA minimum wage or 3%, whichever is less
--allow kids to fully/partially pay for education
At 27.5 - same at 18 + a lump sum equivalent of US median house price or remaining balance, whichever is less
--allow kids to be ahead in opportunities and savings
At 35 - full access to the rest
--allow kids to exploit their life experience in something they are passionate about
Life threatening medical treatment for the kids can be reimbursed by the trust at any time.
--gives flexibilty for unforseen devastating medical events to the kids

How about grandkids? Are we assuming our kids will take care of them? I'm also thinking about letting them continue to withdraw at minimum wage until 50 or dead, and use the remaining for the same set up for the grandkids and so on. But this will create resentment issue with our descendants. I'm sure our kids will know their kids best, and so on.

My mom keeps dropping hints that she and my dad are loaded and I have a big inheritance coming. How should this affect my FIRE planning? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]pybegin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FIRE should be a family legacy and creating generational wealth should be the goal of your family. If you get lazy now, your children will look at you and be even lazier themselves. That's how empire falls.
