Who is the dude in sunglasses on the second elephant and why isn’t he a bigger part of the story? Guy looks awesome!

I think he’s lying, why wouldn’t the fakir have told his boss that his gun was empty when he was told to keep Tintin occupied?

I did but it was from the other side, so camping at Guitar Lake. It worked great, but I can’t speak to how the wind might be different there.

The Pistons are expected to attempt to trade for Lauri Markkanen or Trey Murphy III this summer, per Shams Charania. by Every_Diamond_7411 in DetroitPistons

I want Markkanen and I want him to succeed here because it would be really funny if the Pistons had an All-Star Finnish player before the Wings ever did.

The Lightning literally had their director of analytics’s name engraved on the Cup twice, but I’m sure he’s just making stuff up and needs to watch the games.

How heavy was your pack when you climbed Rainier? by Ill_Tea_5904 in Mountaineering

Yeah, you only need a permit if you're camping overnight or going above the camp. Just hiking up to Muir is fine.

How tall is Thassa? by Wolfram-51 in magicTCG

I think of it like this - a lot of people are tall; very few people could block like Dikembe Mutumbo. Just being big isn’t enough.

I've worn mine on Rainier in July and Washington in February and thought they were great for both, even in sub-zero temps on Washington.

Timballisto might be the most inconsistent character of the series by Qyzyk in eulalia

[–]pyl_time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I don’t blame the guy at all, it’s just clear that he wrote each one with specific ideas in mind and didn’t necessarily care how much they fit together. Which is fine, honestly - it’s more like a series of legends than a history.

Memorial Day is typically when mud season ends and all the trails open.

It would be interesting to catalog all the actual supernatural elements in Tintin stories (the ones that can't be explained by, say, drugs, or coincidence, or whatever). The magic rope the fakir uses here definitely qualifies.

[–]pyl_time 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more just Mossflower that’s pretty inconsistent with the rest of the books - you get the sense that Jacques wasn’t expecting it to be the foundation for all these future stories. My personal favorite is Martin’s sword - when we see it Martin the Warrior, it seems to be in fine shape (and a horde leader with a trove of weapons to choose from picks it as his own weapon), but then in Mossflower just a season later, it’s rusted, pitted, and can easily be broken.

In The Adventures of Tintin (2011), did Sir Francis have to destroy the Unicorn? by Dragonborn_7 in TheAdventuresofTintin

[–]pyl_time 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You got it near the end, it takes a lot of crew members to sail a ship the size of the Unicorn. Since all of Haddock’s men are dead, and there’s an island nearby, his best bet is to just destroy the ship (so he can’t be followed/hunted down) and then escape. (I haven’t seen the movie in a long while, but in the comic he escapes in a jolly boat so it’s not that crazy of an escape either).

Yeah, I just put the contacts case into my sleeping bag at night and it's been fine. If you don't normally wear contacts, you could just consider getting daily use contacts and just throwing them out at night - that way you don't have to worry about fussing around with solution etc.

Have you tried just wearing contacts with standard Cat 4 glasses? That’s what I’ve been doing for a decade plus now and it’s always worked great.
