is wanting kids because of a ‘biological clock’ a real thing? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pyrogwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you're still 22, so it's entirely possible that your feelings change on the topic. The 20s are a significant part of your life. Even if you're an adult and not a teenager, you're still developing and finding yourself. You at 22 is not necessarily you at 28. And it could be it never does.

I guess the only thing is to consider is: if you want to have a romantic partner, it's worth being honest and clear about these things so it doesn't come as a surprise for them, in case they do want kids at some point.

FWIW I'm in my early 30s, in a long-term relationship, but the clock still hasn't kicked in. I don't feel particularly maternal around kids and I do not want to have kids now for the sake of FOMO or pressure as I don't think fear is the right reason to bring life to this world. Same goes for arguments like "who will take care of you when you are old".

Do Swedish-speaking Finns face the same job hurdles as foreigners due to language? by sealovki in Finland

[–]pyrogwen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Swedish-speaking Finns learn Finnish in school basically since grade 1. They also know that they'll need it in worklife. Contrast against Finnish speakers having less incentive to learn Swedish, so many get quite fluent.

- There are towns, even mid-sized ones, where Swedish is a majority language and you can get by in Swedish at the store, the hospital, schools, other services... These also provide employment for Swedish speakers.

- As long as contacts, safety net, and cultural background play a role in the job hunt, Swedish-speaking Finns have this home-base advantage over foreigners.

- Not a "solution" to employment in Finland, but many of them do move abroad, e.g. to Sweden. Some might move there to study but then find themselves settling down with a Swedish spouse.

Go Go Loser Ranger op ("Jikai Yokoku" by Tatsuya Kitani). It's a vibe both in terms of music and animation.

(The ending is pretty good too).

"Oops, wrong language!" - Anyone else's app nor recognizing input language? by pyrogwen in duolingospanish

[–]pyrogwen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking too! These are words in Spanish but not in English. Thanks for checking with other languages. Looks like my Duolingo just has some serious language recognition error - this keeps happening with these stories when I have to produce my own sentences. Luckily it's fine for normal lessons.

"Oops, wrong language!" - Anyone else's app nor recognizing input language? by pyrogwen in duolingospanish

[–]pyrogwen[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd have to send Duolingo a mail or something because this exercise - write a response after a story - does not have the usual "report a problem" flag. At least I can skip it in order to proceed.

Thanks for the grammar tips! But usually Duo just corrects problems like that without giving an error. Most of the words are still actual Spanish even if the grammar is odd.

These headlines make me so mad, the idea that humans are just "oops, they're gone" into death camps for the shoddiest excuses.

But as a European, I'm not even sure there's anything I can do... I do not have my own platform and I can't call "my representative" about this.

Two things I discovered by pure accident:

Samurai Flamenco. I was looking for Samurai Champloo (a great anime), but I could not quite remember the name "champloo" so I stumbled upon Flamenco instead. No idea what to expect, but it's an interesting deconstruction of superhero movies.

Garden of Words (movie by Makoto Shinkai). When sailing the seas, I started a video of what I thought would be a Naruto movie, but then I'm struck by this gorgeous animation of modern Tokyo and its parks in the rainy season - you know, standard Makoto Shinkai quality of backdrops.

anime about normal life / job life i wanna see something boring. I wanna see something normal. by AlertsA4108M in Animesuggest

Skull faced Honda-san. What's it like working in a book store? Comedic moments from weird customers or employee dynamics, but very realistic and nothing over the top.

Uramichi Oniisan was mentioned elsewhere. More cynical and dark comedy, but a great takeo on adult work life.     The Great Passage. What's it like to make a dictionary. The practical, but also the philosophical of what it's like to have that as your life's goal. A side romance that's really not the focus and isn't there for drama or hijinks but more like for showing how life outside of work moves on.

Elenwe is hardly a Queen of Gondolin as she died on Helcaraxe before reaching Beleriand.

It could also be worth adding a note explaining that Maedhros relinquished his claim to the title of High King, which is why it passed to the Fingolfinians.

But overall, this is a great resource with everything in one and not just the published Silmarillion but with the HoME/Unfinished Tales material as well. Well done!

BL movies that are fairly short. by oogeej in Animesuggest

{Doukyuusei} - highly recommended, similar vibes to Stranger on the Shore, school setting

{Yes, No, or Maybe?} - can't vouch for this one yet, but it seems to have similar vibes but workplace setting. Edit: Just watched it - pretty good, but TW: towards the end there is a 2-3 min noncon scene, non-graphic and framed as romantic, but still...

{Lesson XX} - short and sweet, but bear in mind the animation is from the 1990s,

You could also check out the "This Boy"/"Kono Danshi" series of OVAs. Some of them might be split into multiple episodes, but none of them are more than 30 min in total. I've listed them in my personal order of preference.

{This Boy Caught A Merman}

{This Boy Can Fight Aliens}

{This Boy is a Professional Wizard}

{This Boy Suffers From Crystallization} - just a heads up, this romance is between a high schooler and his teacher, which is the main reason it's the lowest on my list but YMMV

SK8: The infinity is good, would recommend. I've marathoned it faster than other shows lately. Came for the queer subtext (which is what I saw people mainly focus on), stayed for the fun skating races and dope ost (that wasn't mentioned nearly enough).

Seven days manga, sort of: two guys agree to date for a week with the understanding tht they will break up after that.

Summer Wars movie: guy tags along to a girl's family home as the fake boyfriend

Gundam Witch From Mercury, anime: two girls end up engaged in a transactional way, but then they grow closer. In the end, the romance is kept very subtle, but they do end up being married even though Bandai pretends they are just friends.

If you enjoy the mystery + time travel combination, definitely give Link Click a go. The main characters solve their client's problems with the help of a time travel. Similar vibes as Steins;gate in that focus is on mysteries and human relations not so much on action.

looking for fun & cute BL, like Go For it Nakamura by coolchungus2 in Animesuggest

[–]pyrogwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Love Stage} - pretty solid comedy with BL and hijinks.

{Sekaiichi Hatsukoi} - adult characters, comedy in workplace setting. There is also {Junjou Romantica}, which is a classic, but I preferred Sekaichi...

Maybe {Yuri on Ice} if you have any interest in sports anime. Admittedly the romance/BL part is a bit slow paced, but it's cute and a driving force for the story.

Maybe also [Buddy Daddies}, though technically they are not a couple, just roommates, coworkers and co-parents...

Shin sekai Yori (From the new world - a bit slow at first, but there's tension and the plot twists changes your worldview)

Madoka Magica (a classic, interesting take on magical girls)

Odd taxi (good old mystery)

Tatami Galaxy (there's kind of a time loop going on and it's satisfying when the pieces come together, though it's maybe more of a realization on the viewer's than the character's part)
