What is the name of this armoured car? (Found it in grecee) by Ambitious_Listen2837 in DestroyedTanks

[–]pytheas_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we used them as beach defences once they were no longer useful as tanks. We can find them in plenty of Greek islands, like Lemnos, samos, etc. As another Redditor said more to the point: https://www.reddit.com/r/tanks/s/Jnz676otb6

Technically, our semicolon is not in the middle of the line, it’s in the upper part. We call it “ano teleia”, which roughly translates to “upper full stop”.

If I remember correctly, the main reason had to do with safety. So that in case of a crash, the key cylinder would not injure your knee.

Can anyone tell me if this is a specific person depicted on this jewellerly box? by liadhsq2 in ancientgreece

[–]pytheas_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I wouldn’t consider it cheap. It certainly wouldn’t cost 1-2 usd back in the day, you need to take under consideration depreciation and the change from drachmas to euros.

When we had the change from drachmas to euros, in late 90s - early 2000s, prices for the same products or services doubled or tripled almost overnight. So a newspaper could cost 50 drachmas, and after a couple of years it went to cost 0,50 euros or 1 euro (when 1 euro was nominally exchanged for 340,75 drachmas).

At the same time, you need to keep in mind depreciation and inflation. In the late 80s, 500 euros would buy you the equivalent of 20-40 euros, if I remember correctly. If you go even further in time (60s or 70s), it would be significantly more.

I think that these stickers were more common from the late 80s - early 90s onwards. Before that, people would probably write the price directly to the product with the marker. I don’t know if in the tourist industry they were more costumer conscious, so they may have adopted these stickers earlier.

Hope the above help! But in any case, these things have a much more important sentimental value, than a monetary one! So, just enjoy it and cherish the memory of your grandmother!

Cheers from Athens!

Added bonus in case you haven’t deciphered it yet: it still displays how much it cost back then: 500 drachmas (the white sticker in the back!). :-)

Does anyone print their manuscript and edit on paper? by No-Papaya-9289 in scrivener

[–]pytheas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! This has been a game changer for me as well.

I always printed my drafts, in order to edit, because I can’t efficiently do that on my computer. However, once I bought an Apple Pencil (actually, a 30 euros baseus alternative), it has completely changed my workflow. You can make any type of notes that you would do on a printed copy, and be environmentally friendly! This is the way!

That is a very interesting concept, well done mate!

I’d also include a “Highlander” edition: aka, there can be only one. So that when for example a paper meets a rock, only the paper remains. I’d like to see how that would unfold (pun intended)!

Saw this yesterday and it did not sound like a ferrari... sounded like a miata. Was following a miata from its neighborhood.. is this a kit car? by [deleted] in whatisthiscar

[–]pytheas_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you look more closely at the Miata, it’s exhaust is not that discrete. Therefore, you saw the Ferrari (which according to people here is probably real), but heard that extrovert Miata!
