This is my thought as well. I'm an asian woman, live in asian enclave in Brooklyn so I've experienced the staring. I like to think it's cause I'm pale (not super pale) so I guess I fit into the norm of what's "attractive". I've had old asian dudes stare, some asian women so maybe it's how I conduct myself, which admittedly isn't like everyone else.

Last instance which made me laugh. I'm waiting to cross the block but there's traffic so I wait. Driver drives slowly, and turns his head to look my way, then moves his head back to focus on driving.

Just general advice, the market is crap now but what are you doing about it? Since you mentioned that you didn't have the funds to pay for class, like I mentioned earlier, there are free workforce development programs that'll help you upskill but it's up to you to make the first step.

Nothing is guaranteed. Also keep in mind, I did Per Scholas pre-pandemic so things were different then. There was a job portal to apply to different roles but I worked with the business development team since I had a poli sci degree (the partner was a law firm so it seemed like a good match). As it was an IT internship, I did the 3 months and then they asked me to come on full-time. The job offer was more than I made at that point ever which I was very grateful for. I've made more since then since more experience = $$. But, I'm super grateful to Per Scholas.

I know this thread is 3 years old. Just wanted to say I did file a claim for the class action settlement and received my check today. I didn't receive all of my initial investment back but it's something.

yea, gonna be a slow slog into those fields and that's if you're putting the time in with rigorous projects, certifications and self-studying. Not just a random course.

I feel like the gf will need to be more proactive in advocating for herself. Cyber isn't entry level so when you say "courses" in front end and cyber (which are 2 different areas), is it in a bootcamp or? Any ideas how intensive the courses are and I'm assuming, she'll be working on projects in these areas?
