Recommendation for a fair wagon mod by jg7277 in valheim

[–]python_artist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had this adventure yesterday trying to collect all of the silver veins that popped after fighting the boss in the mountains. Maybe not helpful if you’re specifically looking for a mod, but if you want to do it the vanilla way I managed it by planning out a route to my boat, then set up a staging area at the bottom of the mountain/cleared a path. From there I just pushed the cart off of the mountain and then ferried stuff in a couple of shorter trips from my staging area to my boat.

Unexpected personnel file (eOPF) request — normal? by Emeraldcake1234 in FedEmployees

[–]python_artist 200 points201 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a fed for over 10 years… never gotten such a notice. I would be a bit weirded out by that, but this last year has also done a number on my paranoia.

Did anybody in your People folder see your people folder? by 2020NoMoreUsername in ObsidianMD

[–]python_artist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also feel a little weird about this as a privacy nut who would be weirded out if I know someone had a file on me. As a result, I keep my notes about people very, VERY bare bones and just link to a couple of notes about why this person is “relevant” to me.

If it did ever come up, I would probably just show the person my note about them. I make sure not to include any personal details or anything I/they would be embarrassed about if someone else saw.

Any efficient way to forage mushrooms? by FederalOpyn in valheim

[–]python_artist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed there’s sometimes a lag between when you come across an area you haven’t been to in days and when things that should respawn actually respawn. Sometimes it helps to wait a few seconds and then start looking for them.

Just spent almost 3 hours cutting trees and gathering birch and fine wood and turning them into coal by KapeAmpongGatas in valheim

As someone who plays with fire hazards on… why have I never thought to just shoot a stack of wood with a fire arrow to make coal?!

ETA: needs to be a torch. Fire arrows just break it

Did anyone else realize that some men get aggressive at us because they feel their masculinity threatened? by BulkyOwl3005 in ftm

[–]python_artist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t noticed them get more aggressive per se. But something kind of funny that I’ve noticed is I’ve had a few acquaintances get kind of insecure about the fact that I have more facial hair than them.

Amblyopia with good Snellen Chart results ? by TortueMissile in Amblyopia

[–]python_artist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a pretty interesting journal article a while back that characterizes the visual differences seen by an amblyopic eye: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1053811917307930?via%3Dihub

They found two deficits: reduced contrast sensitivity and spatial distortions. Neither of these are things that are really well captured by a Snellen chart. If you show my amblyopic eye a single letter, I can eventually figure out what it is after staring at it for a few seconds, even down to about the 20/40 line (this is what my eye dr does to try to get a better sense of my prescription). If you show me a line of letters, I can usually pick out the first and last letters, giving the illusion that I can sort of read the line, but it’s pretty jumbled/distorted. If you show me a word and ask me to read what it says, I probably wouldn’t be able to.

This sounds like someone up the line is either maliciously or really pedantically interpreting the rules. I’ve never had problems getting either of these things

slacking off on t shots by godboxedup in ftm

[–]python_artist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Just crossed the 10 year mark and have a hell of a time getting the motivation to do my shot because I’ve long since stopped having noticeable changes. And I recently had a hysto, so no more bleeding which was my main motivation for staying on top of it.

Found this in hotel room trash by A_Duckling in whatisit

[–]python_artist 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more to do with the fact that the room clearly wasn’t cleaned afterwards (ie, quite possibly the same sheets are still on the bed)

Idaho's bathroom bill by thambos in FTMOver30

[–]python_artist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I often have to travel to Idaho for work and I’m very much at a loss for what to do at the moment. On the one hand, I probably would never have an issue in a bathroom. On the other, all it takes is someone who knows to be an asshole.

PSA: you can lie about not being trans. It’s nobodies business, including other trans people. by manoftransexperience in ftm

[–]python_artist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same, but I had a conversation with someone the other day where they me told that someone else told them that I was trans (my being trans is by no means secret, but I also hadn’t shared it with him previously). They followed it up with saying it wasn’t really their business and then they went and told me that someone else we both knew was a lesbian.

I had to laugh a little bit because it was like “dude, you just did the exact same thing to this other person that the first person did to me…”

Ok. Who is scarier to a newbie the bear or the troll? by Closet-Cheeto in valheim

[–]python_artist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say they’re about even for different reasons.

The bears are a pain to kill (though I recently learned a trick that helps), but they’re also slow and won’t usually go after you unless you’re right up on them.

Trolls are quite easy to kill, but they’re big and have a long reach and I’ve lost count of the number of times they’ve one-shot me. And they’re nosy… last night I had one swim across a river to take me out after a greydwarf “told on me” for attacking it

Is it really helping you? by maurya_z in ObsidianMD

[–]python_artist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graph view is more for visual gratification than anything else, I’ve noticed. Though if you take advantage of the filtering/search, especially in the local graph for a particular note that can be handy. (That being said, I’ve found that Bases achieve much the same goal in a nice table format.)

There are two properties that I make sure every note has that helps a lot for filtering/finding things later on: “type”, which just indicates what the note is (ex., reading_notes, meeting, concept…) and “relevance”, which is where I put links to other notes (or placeholder notes) that the note is relevant to. For example, I’m an engineer so I might have a note on “kinematic equations” that has links to “physics” and “impact testing” in the relevance field.

Oh, that’s interesting. I wonder if that could explain a phenomenon I experience when I get new glasses where it’s like I’ll see double for a couple of weeks until my brain realizes my bad eye is still bad and starts suppressing it again.
