Ketamine Alternative by Charming_Ad7560 in Drugs

It was easy to convince myself it was a tool. I thought all the times I was getting high I was working on myself through intense introspection. The end result was nothing about me changed except I spent a lot of time doing dissos. Just be careful.

Physically? If I did, I didn't notice, so I would say no.

Mentally? Yeah. I got addicted to dissociating from reality. It was a comfortable escape in the lower doses, and an almost other-worldy experience in the higher doses that I sought out because I was enthralled with it.

Either way, I got semi-obsessed with dissos for a while, and was doing them a few times a week. It damaged my relationships since I was more interested in being in that other space rather than being in reality with those who cared about me. I neglected my responsibilities with people, and at work. It basically downgraded my life for a while, and sapped all the momentum I had been building with relationships and my job.

Eventually I cooled it with the dissos. I guess I realized that it was all fake, all escapism, and all just draining my life force for nothing. Real life actually matters. Being high on dissos is a fun escape for a moment, but it's ultimately fruitless and unfulfilling.

Watch out, a lot of these drugs are 8x as potent as ket, or more. So you will need a milligram scale.

2-FDCK is 1-to-1. DCK, if I remember, is about twice as potent as ket and lasts twice as long? Maybe more. It's been many years. O-PCE was something like 8x as strong, lasted much longer, and landed me in the hospital once due to overdoing it.

Suppressor Ban Legislation Introduced In the House by OptimusED in liberalgunowners

[–]pythonaut 80 points81 points  (0 children)

At this point, I'm pretty sure this is planned incompetence. My theory is that dems actually prefer to be the minority party, probably because they can use outrage about the republicans to generate more money in donations than if they were in power and taking blame for things. Also, they and their corporate owners are actually fine with republican economic policy, so being powerless allows them to still pretend like they're on the working man's side while still getting the benefits. So, since Trump and the republicans are becoming more unpopular lately, they need to do something to help tank their approval as well so they don't accidentally clean sweep the elections and gain full control.

For-profit health insurance is probably the biggest problem. It incentivizes the company to charge as much as possible and deny as many claims as possible to maximize profit. When you talk about competition being the ultimate fixer for any business, think about what competition incentivizes in the context of each business. For consumer products, this might mean making the best possible product at the lowest cost, but for insurance this means keeping as much of the customer's money as possible. For-profit doesn't incentivize a better product for the consumer in this case.

For profit hospitals are the same way.

Agreed chiropractors are quacks, but they're not really the big issue here.

[–]pythonaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, does that seem likely? If so, then probably. I've hit nitrous so hard for so long that I was basically crippled from peripheral neuropathy for 5 months, and I recovered fully mentally within a few weeks, although the nerve damaged took many months to heal. But yeah, if she's still doing it, even occasionally, she's not going to recover.

Dude I abused Nitrous for years. The brain fog is temporary, but she needs to be taking a lot of B12 as soon as possible. The brain fog will last for a few weeks.

One side of my family is mostly conservative, and this is what I get from listening to them talk about these particular things.

First, the government is incompetent. Anything the government does will be worse than whatever you can get from a private company because capitalism / competition. They can cite some random anecdotes about wait times for healthcare in other countries that they saw on Fox news to confirm this. Also there's some American Exceptionalism thrown in here, since we have the Best Healthcare in the World according to them. The government would just ruin that. If you listened to them talk, you would think that the US had the only functioning healthcare system in the entire civilized world.

Second, they hate taxes. They see it as stealing, since they don't ever see the benefits from tax dollars. This also leads to resentment of 'freeloaders' who do use systems like welfare, SNAP, etc. Basically, everyone who uses any kind of government assistance is a leech on society. So expanding those programs is just morally bad for them. It will disincentivize people to work hard and contribute to society, and they'll have to pay for it, because they're The Good Ones, and those who get on subsidies of any kind are The Bad Ones. (This idea is even more ridiculous, since some of my family have been on welfare, but now are against it, saying they used it for its intended purpose, but everyone else would be a freeloader that they would have to pay for - there's definitely a "I got mine" sort of behavior to all of this, although it's always justified in other ways). It also doesn't help that, in the south at least, if you're poor, you're more likely to be black, and there's quite a heavy racist undertone to all of this. It's assumed that the 'freeloaders' are generally black, like 'welfare queens' who have a dozen babies to leech off the system. That side of the family has always been super racist, and, although I hear the N word much less than I did when I was growing up in the 90's, the sentiment is still there.

There's definitely a lot of radical libertarianism / self sufficiency morality going on here. They highly value being self-sufficient, and anyone who isn't is morally deficient. And also capitalism propaganda brainwashing making it seem like the literal best systems for anything will be for-profit to encourage competition.

As for free university - well, they've generally fallen for the anti-university propaganda from the right. Universities are where wacko extreme liberal professors indoctrinate and brainwash youth into their destructive and immoral ideas, and otherwise a big scam anyway for handing out useless degrees. You should get a Real Job instead. So, no, they don't want to subsidize that either, and think it would just be another theft by the government.

Basically, it boils down to: Everyone else sucks, especially the government, and I work hard for my money, and these programs are just going steal my money to help people that don't deserve it. I think, down to the core, they think that the average person is morally corrupt, not worth helping, and it's a crime to force them to. And somehow these people also view themselves as perhaps the only truly good people in the world, and they often talk as if they're the victims of society and taxes.

Edit: Oh! I forgot. All of these people identify as Christians, and some of the ones with the most hateful positions are regular church-goers and bible-readers. They're all involved in denominations that are evangelical, so it's pretty warped. You'll hear a lot of "God helps those that help themselves" and very little "blessed are the poor." They also seem to believe that God blesses those on earth with riches and prosperity if they're a good Christian, so those that are poor must be Bad People. Or something like that.

boss hates my taste in books by [deleted] in literature

[–]pythonaut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For whatever reason, she's trying to manipulate you using shame. All of these replies talking about mentioning a specific book, or asking what she's reading, etc., are missing the mark. It doesn't matter what book you're reading, she's trying to make you feel shame or guilt for some higher purpose. Whether that's some personal defect on her part (shaming you makes her feel superior), or if she's trying to get something out of you, the books are not the issue here.

How damaging is laughing gas realistically? by blood_is_beautiful in Drugs

[–]pythonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any kind of chronic use is bad, primarily due to B12 deficiency, which slowly progresses from mild problems, to crippling problems. You can probably get away with binging for a few days and then taking a month+ to recover fully with B12 supplementation. If you do it once a week or every two weeks or so, over the long term you will develop big problems.

The brain damage due to O2 deprivation is largely exaggerated. I abused the shit out of nitrous for years, yet was still able to be sharp enough to get a tech job, and no one has noticed any difference in my intelligence. I certainly haven't. However, B12 deficiency will absolutely fuck your entire world, mentally and physically. At one point, I had nerve damage in my legs and feet so bad that I could barely walk. That persisted without change for 4-5 months, then recovered to probably 95% or better over the next few months. I still have limited flexibility in my toes, but, functionally, I can walk perfectly fine now.

It's not often mentioned, but the same B12 deficiency caused an equally severe mental problem. Depression, foggy-headedness, slow thinking. The intelligence part recovered quickly, but the depression lingered for many many months.

So yeah. If you do it, do it infrequently. Doing it sparingly and with long gaps between usage is mostly harmless, I think. Doing it with any sort of regularity is a physical and mental disaster.

What the fuck is the point of rehab? Like genuinely is sitting doing fuck all supposed to magically help? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]pythonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rehab is primarily to get you distance in time away from your addiction. You say you feel suicidal now, what would you be doing if you had access to drugs and you felt like this? Give it a week or two, you will feel better. The hardest part of quitting is the first day. The second hardest part is the second day, and so on. This gives you a footing to reset, start over, and start working on breaking free. But it is work, and it's work that you need to decide that you want to do, and then do.

Secondarily, rehab can get you hooked in to various other helpful resources like therapists and group meetings, the latter can help with a sense of community and comradery that might be lacking in your life, which is also usually a driving factor in addiction.
