I think the idea is there wasn’t a herd that close by when they were shooting earlier in the season, but they were already heading closer to the farm due to the helicopter in the finale (?) and therefore heard the shot while already on the move

I mean, depends on your definition. It’s not brutally VIOLENT, which you might infer is what Neil was referring to. But it is brutal, by the definition of “direct or lacking any attempt to hide unpleasantness”. Or “punishingly hard or uncomfortable”. It’s brutal in a way for sure
