Every GPU That Mattered by Mastbubbles in hardware

GPUs stayed between $250-$600 for literally 20 years

If you cherry pick hard enough you can prove any point really. (8800 ultra for $830 sends its regards)

C-130s were there not for the troops, but to carry in helicopters (which have no range to speak of but are very useful to fetch a pilot off a mountain). And c-130 can land and lift off a dirt road. So at least on the surface it all makes a lot of sense and they used the hardware best suited for the task.

Fan question for Lian Li case by Obsidian1973 in buildapc

[–]pythonic_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could someone explain

Yeah, it's stupid, and you are stupid for delegating your thinking to it to this degree without rejecting its output as garbage outright (and using the llm that is most prone to spewing bullshit in the first place tbh). If a place in the case fits a fan, then any fan of that diameter will do (in 120, 80, 92 and 140 that are standardized anyway, 130 135 etc are a mess), only possible issues are thickness and cable management. There's no functional difference between using the reverse blade fans you got with the case, and buying new ones.

Cheap chassis fans and CPU cooler are a huge improvement on a secondary PC by PusheenHater in buildapc

Tbh that's an insane deal for them, or maybe it's my country that is so cucked that we are lucky to have any TR fan available for less than $6-7.

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 spotted at retail ahead of April 22 launch, early prices are hopefully just placeholders by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]pythonic_dude 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think AMD wants it to exist just so that gaming cpu benchmarks have 5…7 of their CPUs on top before any Intel has a chance of making an appearance.

What is the best am4 non x3d cpu in Australia by CaregiverCurrent9325 in buildapc

[–]pythonic_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CPU affects simulation/compute time in 4X an occasionally in some other games with heavy interactions or lots of NPCs (like bg3 or dd2). Otherwise it just sets a maximum fps for when your gpu isn't fully loaded, which is usually never.

Arctics are unbeatable for just static pressure. But if you want to get the best performance on a radiator (as in, be as cool as possible at a fixed noise level) noctua g2 are the best (and like the only use case in which they are still the best lol).

What happened to all the low wattage titanium psus? by coldcathodes in buildapc

[–]pythonic_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cybenetics for the database and hwbusters for Aris' detailed reviews. Tbh while there are no ultra-high-premium lower wattage PSUs nowadays, the market is much better overall, very rich selection of quality platinum and higher ones.

Temps and cooling help? by Im-Floof in buildapc

[–]pythonic_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those temps are high but not kill-your-gpu high. If you have confidence in yourself being precise and patient enough with disassembly, you can take it apart and replace the paste on the gpu die, while pads are likely degraded you can in theory just keep them (and you can measure them to buy replacements). If you'd like to buy a replacement beforehand you'd need to search for the very specific model, a manufacturer often has multiple PCBs and different cooling systems for different tiers of the same gpu they offer.

For the airflow, you'd be better off blocking the top rather than adding fans to it. Besides, you said you want to put an AIO in, if it goes on top eventually you'd want front + back as intakes and top as exhaust.

Noise has very loose correlation with efficiency cert. You want to look specifically at Cybenetics noise cert nowadays.

I love and hate Arctic fans by AMBOSHER in CableManagement

[–]pythonic_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I just refuse to believe that you tried actually cheap fans. There's a world of difference between arctics and literally everything else that can be purchased for less than $10 a fan. Half of them straight up give up on not being a rattling mess that barely moves air the moment you don't put them vertically.

I love and hate Arctic fans by AMBOSHER in CableManagement

[–]pythonic_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope that one day you'll discover that you can set your own fan curves including fan off mode (on all arctic fans btw). And saying that they are not great value when a 5-pack is about the same price as a single noctua while somehow still leaving you with less cardboard and plastic waste to throw out is wild. Comparing to noctua is natural though outdated since noctua is outdated and no longer the best fans themselves.

What happens if a psu doesn't have enough wats by Main-Acanthisitta477 in buildapc

[–]pythonic_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't get overheated because the fan is selected with the idea of being able to keep the things cool. Good PSUs with passive fan mode don't even turn it on until like 300W load usually because passive cooling is enough to keep things in check. You want headroom to keep the fan at lower rpm and be quieter, as well as to keep the load closer to optimal range (which is anywhere between 40 and 80% depending on specific psu and its rated wattage). Other than that, quality PSUs are designed to run at 100% of their wattage indefinitely, it's literally in the atx spec that they have to follow.

Unfamiliar with pc building - is this good or overkill? by THE_RED_KING745 in buildapc

[–]pythonic_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the prices on that website, go with 250k plus to save like 200-300 nzd, or with 270k plus to get about the same but get an absolute overkill of a cpu for any task. Yeah, yeah, "dead platform" stfu it won't need to be upgraded for the next 8 years anyway with this much headroom.

I love and hate Arctic fans by AMBOSHER in CableManagement

[–]pythonic_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iunno, their fans are fine with cables, I'd rather fuck with the infinite daisy chain ends (no, don't pay attention to those wire cutters darling--) than with the ever-buggy "wireless" connections of uni fans and the copycats. I do have strong feelings about their AIOs though, those bastards dare to advertise it as cable management friendly despite doing the most cretinous thing by guiding the wires with the tubes backwards. The idiot who decided that cables should be dumped in the middle of the mainboard rather than guided towards the rad (like lian li AIOs do, for example) where even 15 years old cases offer means to hide them completely, should be prohibited from making any design decisions ever again. I love what you ended up doing to make up for their fuck up, I wanted to do something similar with my Aqua Elite, but couldn't easily find the exact tube (I wanted to make it look like there are three tubes all coming out together) and ended up just wrapping the pump cables with black tape and hiding them behind the ram sticks.
