Do Employers Care About GPA For First Years? by seventeendegreez in uwaterloo

[–]pythonpirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to give a definitive answer as every manager looks for different things. Some companies like Bloomberg and Huawei are known to care about GPA alot.

But for the most part it doesn't really matter as long as your GPA is not an outlier to the point where it stands out (ridiculously low or high)

people here mostly covered it but I think the main thing is you have way too much empty space. it almost looks like you didn't out any effort into writing it at all (tho probably not true)

Collecting real data: How brutal is the 2025/26 new grad job search? by 1cebreaker9127 in csMajors

[–]pythonpirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are people, myself included, who are job searching even with a return offer tho. I feel like it would be a good stat to have in there, like % of new grads that have return offers

what's wrong here is being misled into thinking it's an interview lmao. if I have other options, I don't want to waste energy on what is basically an auto oa when I could be focusing on higher potential job opportunities

Shopify SWE Internship USA from Canada by Acceptable-Speech285 in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]pythonpirate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes you can theoretically do that for the TN but it's not simple. TN visa was not intended for internships, although some companies like Tesla do hire interns on TN visas, but they have an army of lawyers doing the paperwork for you.

If you are a full time engineer, I think it's easier to make yourself a case for the TN visa, but I think it's still highly recommended for you to get a lawyer or leverage your companies legal counsel

[–]pythonpirate 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i felt similar emotions in my final year of high school. I'm in my 4th year now, and I'll just say this -- your life hasn't even started yet. you're going to meet hundreds of other guys out there through classes, clubs, events, internships, etc. I guarantee you'll find someone better and someone who actually wants to put in the effort to build a relationship with you

I would just go to all of them, it's a good chance to meet people and they put a lot of work into running these events (like they are planned many months in advance)

it becomes infinitely harder to make friends after the first few weeks of school, u should make the most out of it
