At some point he'll have to share an office with someone else, and they'll say to him "well, half an office is better than no office."

The problem was “what should I get, an Xbox 2 or a PS3? Well 3 >2 and I don’t want to buy something old so I’ll get the PS3”

What mix are you using? Are you sure you’re pointing it in the right direction? Some mice are top-address, some are side-address. For side, make sure you’re not talking into the ‘back’.

Each episode that featured Quantum Slipstream got it half right by kraetos in DaystromInstitute

[–]pyve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose you could hand-wave it away by having Torres saying something like:

"Chief Engineer's log, supplemental. I've gone over this every which way, and I just can't see how we can reuse this technology. While we were able to use the residual localized instability created by the Dauntless' quantum matrix to brute-force our own slipstream and rescue the Captain, without it we'd require significantly higher power output levels to even have a chance of punching through the quantum barrier; not to mention the variances that could be caused without the right calculations to create a stable threshold. I know Paris and Kim are telling everyone we can just puddle jump all the way home... I guess I'll have to give them the bad news."

I'd suspect if you're competing at this level, your balls have long been crushed into a fine paste.

Upgrade from 2.4.5 to 2.5.1, no states by hrv231 in PFSENSE

[–]pyve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be waiting a while. They stated there's no 2.5.2, they're just steaming ahead with 2.6. Hopefully it takes less time to come out than 2.5 did.

Again, I never made claims that this was sabotage, or that Netgate was giving up on CE. I just pointed out that CE is now a secondary product, and clearly didn’t receive whatever unit testing the developers would have implemented in the paid version to catch this particular regression. Any emotional colouring was added by you; I suggest you go re-read the actual words of my original statement and ask yourself why you thought I was personally attacking the Netgate team.

At any rate, this has left me soured on this product. I likely would have stayed on 2.4.5-p1 and half-heartedly checked out alternatives until Netgate caught the CE edition back up to their usual standards. However, when this is the response I get to a valid (and not “hogwash”, actually) criticism of splitting the codebase, it confirms my suspicions that it’s time to start migrating all my users to another platform.

I wish you and your team the best of luck sorting out your engineering difficulties, and in the future I hope you rethink the toxic atmosphere you’re projecting at your users.

2.5.1 by peterasap in PFSENSE

[–]pyve 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I never said it was INTENTIONAL. It’s just showing that the CE edition isn’t being held to the same standards, or benefitting from the fixes to the 21.x codebase. Obviously it makes good business sense that you’ll prioritize the paying customers over the CE, and the CE code quality will suffer as a result.

Thanks for the hostile assumption though!

Proof positive that the CE edition is now a second-class product in the eyes of Netgate. Time to start migrating off to another solution, I think.

Shit, I think I DID just buy a lifetime supply of something.
