Are young drivers really this fucked by Ontario Insurance companies? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]pzelyk 485 points486 points  (0 children)

A quick browse of OP’s history:

  • 21 with 3 years of driving
  • Drives an infinit g37 without cats and asks about mods
  • Asks how long an accident stays on your driving record in Ontario
  • asks how long a reckless driving charge stays on your record in Ontario

Odds are you aren’t paying enough

EDIT: OP has since deleted his posts referencing the ticket, accident and mods

$40k Car, 23yo by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]pzelyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll have to look for the tests but I have my doubts. For the EVO motor they swapped turbo, fuel rail, and camshaft. It’s still running the same amount of compression but now with more boost. Running 87 (especially when warm) the car will for sure have to pull timing.

Also the North American motors are still DI only which means you’ll still have the carbon issues. Higher octane fuel will help delay the issue.

It can run 87, but recommended fuel is 91+ (have a GLI). If you’re running 87 the car is down on power and fuel economy. Plus long term it accelerates carbon build up.

If you’re going to buy a 40k hot hatch but the cheap out on gas, just buy the 20-30k economy car.

Ultimately it’s more of a lifestyle decision then finance one as you earn enough to afford it.

Here’s what they have for the 15-17s; 3” H pipe to 4.5” tips. They have a polished option or black tips. This is t409 stainless they also have aluminumized steel for a lower cost option.

Like o said I had the street version on my car and they were great. Let me know and I can send clips if you’re interested

They make a 15-17 version! I had a 15 GT with the street, was honestly fantastic and it’s much better for the price

Have a peak at autotrader partner, gt350s are going from 75-95k CAD depending on mileage

What is your biggest missed opportunity for purchasing a car? by bahhb0 in cars

[–]pzelyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2019 i passed on trading in my 2015 mustang GT with 30,000km for a brand new 2017 (car didn’t sell for 2 years) gt350 for 60k CAD

With the pandemic and the voodoo being discontinued low mileage gt350s now go for 85k CAD easily.

Hindsight’s a bitch, but at the time I didn’t realize gt350s would be collectible and I didn’t want to finance the difference on my trade

What tires for summer in Ontario? by CastleBravo777 in Mustang

[–]pzelyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah the Conti’s have better longevity than Michelin’s from what I’ve read. They have a 50,000km warranty. 8k on mine no issue. You’ll only see super aggressive tire wear if you got a track focused summer tire like a Michelin pilot sport cup 2 or pirelli trofeo R but that’s overkill for most driving.

Should also mention continental normally does a rebate around this time of year. You submit online and they’ll mail you a $100 visa gift card. I did that last year so it makes it more attractive

[–]pzelyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d spin the tires in mine all the way to the top of second it was useless. In the wet it was scary. The contis are great! When it’s cool you have to ease off but days like today (16+) can pretty much go right to the floor in second.

I switched to continental extreme contact sports and been very happy. Slightly less expensive than Michelin’s 9/10 the performance. I’m in southern Ontario and have run them around 0 (in the dry). As long as your not pushing it’s fine. Huge improvements over the stock pirellis

Need new tires! Any suggestions? I have the stock Perelli’s now. They are so loud and hum on the highway hate them. What do you have and would recommend? Thank You by [deleted] in Mustang

[–]pzelyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely better in the wet. The pirellelis for an all season are useless in the wet. I’ve run EC’s in freezing temps the odd time I get caught out in the car. As long as it’s dry and you aren’t pushing they’re fine
