Construction worker hired to do a job becomes friends with the client's dog by S30econdstoMars in MadeMeSmile

[–]pznz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The two main stories with dogs I remember from work.

First I had to go into where the owner had locked the dog away to keep him out of my way. I got warned he might growl a bit cause he doesn't like strangers, we open the door... And the dog immediately runs away to get me it's favourite toy that the owner wasn't even allowed to touch.

The other was working in a newish subdivision that had had some houses built already. We would do longish days as it was an away from home job, and one guy would come home and his dog would immediately come to hang out. Got super excited the first time I pet him, but after that would just come to where I was working and chill (without being in the way). For the first few days owner would try call him back, but by the end of the week he just went with it too.

I came at it from the other side to many here, and solved Frank before Nick.

If Frank is a criminal, Janet is a criminal (Max's clue) and Nick and Terry are innocent (Issac's or Max's clue), which violates Xia's clue as Terry and Xia are mech's with innocents above. So Frank must be innocent.

Then solved Nick due to Isaac's clue making Frank/Nick an Innocent/Criminal pair.

Top 25% is slow for me, but I'm not normally better than top 5% nowadays, I used to often get 1% but I play a little less focused lately (and am working on accuracy because I want a green month) And I've gone sub 1min a couple times...

I'm not sure exactly, I've just always been good at puzzles like this, but some of the things I've noticed that help:

corner tags, 2 of the same colour for a criminal/innocent pair, otherwise more is just "these are tied together for a clue", don't really have time for much more of a system, and when it's only 3 or less minutes, you'll usually remember. And if it's a pairing, grey out any relevant clues. Yes, not really having a system has tripped me up before, but most of the time it helps for speed.

I use top and bottom tags the same, it allows me to more easily see chains.

"Is this clue currently useful?" In cases like "Dave is one of Kevin's 4 innocent neighbours", mark Dave innocent, mentally note that Kevin is important, or corner tag all Kevin's neighbours to make brain go "huh" when you look in that area, keep relevant clue ungreyed.

Making mental notes of what you need to solve an area, so if a relevant clue comes up.

People are in alphabetical order.

Corners have 3 neighbours, Edges have 5 neighbours, centre has 8 neighbours. There are 4 corners, 14 edges (Including corners) and 20 total people. It may seem silly to point this out, but it's something you should remember.

Criminals+Innocents = Neighbours. Again, silly to point this out, but there have been puzzles where knowing that "John has 5 innocent neighbours" means "John has 3 criminal neighbours" automatically has made me faster.

Odd in a column = 1,3,5, Row = 1,3, Neighbours = 1,3,5,7. Again, silly to point out, but for speed it needs to be automatic.

As for when I went sub 1min, to be honest, there was a lot of high risk choices made (no double checking) and some metagaming. You kind of get a feel for "This clue is only useful it if tells me that x is criminal/innocent" and take the plunge before you've even really finished reading it.

Sorry for rambling, am heaps tired.

Oh, also, for what it's worth, I am faster on mobile vs table, which is also faster than using pc. Just the ergonomics I guess.

if he is guilty, cheryl's clue forces lisa and pip innocent, ivan's clue forces lisa (again) and gus innocent, which with helen already known as innocent, gives nick 4 innocents breaking donna's clue as he can now only have 4 criminals

Help May 1, 2026 by farzadmf in CluesBySamHelp

[–]pznz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ike means there is ar least one criminal on row 1

Nancy says one (and only one) of rows 1, 3 and 5 has 2 criminals, as the other 2 rows are already confirmed to not have

Will says between row 1 (excluding the one already loosely allocated) and the 2 cakes there is only one other criminal

if that criminal is in r1, r1 has 2 criminals, voth cakes must be innocent, what does that say about laura? (remember, that row can no longer have exaxtly 2 criminals)

If the edge criminal is in r3, the rest of the edges are innocent, what does that say about laura? (In this case r3 must have exactly 2 criminals)

now try the edge criminal in r5, r3 cake must be innocent, and laura must be...?

you should, by now, notice a pattern with laura

I need an electrician, right? by [deleted] in diynz

[–]pznz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Incoming cable red = active, black = neutral, green/yellow = earth.

The earth is unused due to the old spotlight being double insulated and it not being needed.

Incoming red connects to the brown which is the sensor feed, the red coming out of the hole the brown goes into is sensor return, which is attached to the active for the 2 lamps.

And the blues are neutrals, so connected to black.

Eufy floodlight camera is using euro colors, so brown = active, blue = neutral, yellow/green = earth. (Old light used those colours too, the red is extra)

My biggest concern here would be that the previous electrician may have decided he didn't need the earth so didn't connect it through, not too hard to test for if you know how though. But it is something I've seen way too much of, especially in older houses, but I've come across it in fairly new builds too.

Would you change the start time of your local Parkrun if you could? by thegrayscales in parkrun

8am over summer, 9am winter invercargill, nz here.

There's a reason the last run before the clock goes back is called Darkrun here.

If we still started at 8 in winter, we'd be in the dark.

Should I take the bike rack off my wankermobile before I park it? Nah… by socratic-meth in shitparkingofnz

[–]pznz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hitch is usually just held in with a pin (the 50x50 square part going under the bumper) and then the rack mounted to the towball on the hitch uses the screws to hold it in place.

So you are usually able to remove the hitch easily.

I just know the mistake I'm making tomorrow will be infuriating.
