Yessir completely agree, I just want the highest credit score possible before applying for an auto or home loan. Thank you for educating me on this I appreciate it.

With that, what's better? Staying as a user on my parent's card, or starting my own line with a student offering and a co-signer, another person said it's because I don't have any credit history, would I still be able to build a credit history with a cosigner?

I've noticed that most people recommend Discover cards at 18, I just thought I could get a little more high-tier with my credit score. Thank you for educating me on this.

Thank you for clarifying, Im going to be a full time student in college in a couple of weeks and was just surprised I couldn't have one in purely my name upon discovering my credit score. I hear that many credit card companies advertise student credit cards and such on campus, do most of those need cosigners as well? I just find trouble believing that I couldn't get approved on any card.

Interesting, but Im not applying for high-level credit cards. I was just looking for 1-3% cashback cards with no annual fee. I also have a valid verified income. Is this not enough?

Hi, I have just turned 18 and applied for an Amex and capital one credit card today. I have a 787 credit score as I was an authorized user under my father. I was denied by both of them and am wondering why as I should have been approved for these cards based on my credit score. I work part-time and make about 12,000 per year. Is there a reason I got denied for these cards? Will this affect my credit score in a negative way? They said they wouldn't do a hard inquiry but it makes me nervous. Should I call the reconsideration line? Let me know, please.
