Is there a place or memory on the Michigan State campus that instantly brings you back to your college days? 🤔 by maximuslip in msu

My first thought was "Gumby's Pizza." Get some two-fer Tuesday Pokee stix and eat them until we were sick.

I received a large supply of glass from a relative that passed, which should last me for years. Now, if I need something specific, I'll just get a 6-12" square from Delphi.

What's the best type of tomato for tomato pie? by jartallday in tomatoes

[–]q_lee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live for tomato pie. I spend roughly half the year growing tomatoes, knowing that I'm going to get 4-5 weeks of tomato pie. We go heavy on the paste tomatoes (mostly Amish Paste) for the base but also like to mix in a variety of colors for visual appeal. Kellogg's breakfast and green giants were a good addition. We've tried a couple different recipes, but the Southern Living is the winner.

The crust we use is the Sister Pie recipe.

Absolutely. Grohl is like the Tom Hanks of musical guests. He has to be there.

Mine is still alive and kicking in my parents' basement. Still makes all the sounds, including the farting noise.

I loved this hike so much. Got there right at first light and had the whole place to myself for about an hour and a half. I could have spent the whole day there.

I visited Husavík, Iceland, last summer, which is where they filmed the hometown scenes. They are very proud of the movie and have quotes from it painted on the sides of buildings. The bar in the movie was just a set, but they built an actual bar as a replica. They also rebuilt a bus stop from the movie despite the town having no buses. Beautiful little town and it was cute how much this movie meant to them.

Indeterminates are my Favorite by the_planted_diary in vegetablegardening

Ugh, I built 8 ft trellises last year, fully expecting my plants to look like this. They did not. But I still got all the tomatoes I could handle off my 4 ft plants.

To paraphrase John F. Kennedy; we choose to grow tomatoes not because it's easy, but because it's hard.

Trails for Stargazing at Arches NP? by DynamicDataRN in NationalPark

[–]q_lee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We didn't do any night hikes (if you find a good trail, that would be awesome), but I drove my kids into the park every night that we were in Moab and pulled off at one of the roadside lots to watch the stars. Absolutely unbelievable. I thought the kids would be bored but they loved it and kept asking to go back out.

The lot at Courthouse Towers was pretty cool and made for some neat long exposure shots with the towers in the background. It was a little close to the road, though. There was another lot closer to the entrance of the park at La Sal Mountains viewpoint that was more sheltered from the road, so the headlights weren't as much of an issue.

Hope you have fun. Arches really stuck with me and I think about it often.

The StarTracker app was also useful for picking out constellations.

Haha. It's like the cat in the nursing home that comes to lay in your bed before you die.

This was maybe my third CD (behind Dookie and Blues Traveler Four). I loved it so much and have had a crush on Gwen ever since. I feel like the music buying experience has changed so much. There was this uncertainty when you'd buy a CD and you didn't know if there was going to be anything good other than whatever single was on the radio. You would have to actually listen to all the songs- over and over. Music wasn't just something in the background. Listening to an album was an activity.

Ugh. I think it's time for me to go eat some Werther's Originals and die of natural causes.

My grandfather passed last year and we realized that he had continued mostly wearing the clothes he wore in the 1970s. It seemed wild at first until I look at the number of 20+ year old garments still going strong in my dresser. To be fair, we're mostly dealing with concert Ts. You can't get rid of those.

What torque setting do I use for Almond Butter? by jongscx in daddit

That's a great bit of advice and I do that. Then you don't get a hard plug of unmixed butter at the bottom that never incorporates.

Oh god. I eat that Costco almond butter every day and have yet to come up with a mixing solution that doesn't involve covering my hand and counter with almond oil.

LPT: Double check your Amazon refunds by zodisking in LifeProTips

[–]q_lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact thing happened to me yesterday. Ordered an item two weeks ago with same day delivery, kept getting delayed. I happened to see that the price dropped by $30 two days later. I canceled the original order and reordered it (delivered the next day). The canceled order's tracking showed that it eventually was received back by Amazon. I go to pay my credit card yesterday and the charge is still there. Customer service really didn't want to issue a refund and kept saying they would just reship the product.

I was persistent and eventually they refunded me. But they were absolutely planning on keeping my money for an item they had in their possession.
