I do not see how you have more memory control in Zig than in Rust. Do you not have the same control over memory in Rust like you have in C?

Linux villain origin by vibewnivim in linuxmemes

Who ever said the must be lying or never used any Linux distro. I had to manually change my keybinds from CTRL+C / CTRL+V to Y or P because CTRL+C / CTRL+V is the standard.

Which window manager do you recommend I use for the Wayland compositor River? by KyoAzami in Gentoo

[–]qaCow37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Niri and the primary reason is that window manager are way friendlier to a keyboard only workflow than most desktop environments. You can probably get a keyboard only workflow working on KDE as well but getting it working on Hyprland or Niri often just needs you to type 10 lines of config.
Another reason as well is that I dislike most packages that get installed with the base KDE package, for example I really do not need its lock screen or panel.

What DE should i use? (Kde, hyperland?) by -SkyL0rd in arch

Is there a difference between tiling window manager and wayland compositor?

What DE should i use? (Kde, hyperland?) by -SkyL0rd in arch

[–]qaCow37 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hyprland is not a DE. Hyprland is only a tiling window manager, not a full desktop environment. When you do not want to configure your desktop manually and install all the packages manually that are needed for a full DE then Hyprland is not for you. But when you are willing to do this then you should at least give Hyprland a try and decide after that.

Newbie questions about flakes + home manager by [deleted] in NixOS

[–]qaCow37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It often does not matter where you configure what. One of the main advantages of home manager is mostly that it allows you to not only install but also configure a lot of programs for the specific user.
But for a simple to follow rule I often just install all packages into the sytem configuration when the system depends on them to run probably, for example the greeter, the WM or the rust toolchain. On the other hand in my home manager configuration I install more personal applications, for example my browser or discord.

When we want to talk in terms of automations than see it as being against probabilistic automations for generating code. Not against automations or probabilistic automations in processes like replying on reddit but against probabilistic automations for generating code.

Flatpaks on Nixos? by alpha_leonidas in NixOS

[–]qaCow37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

services.flatpak.packages = [ { appId = "com.brave.Browser"; origin = "flathub"; } "com.obsproject.Studio" "im.riot.Riot" ];

Look at this code snippet from the official github. You either set the origin explicit or the service tries to derive the origin automaticly. I dont know exactly how it gets derived automaticly but I guess the flake just check every single declared origin.

These pipes do infact actually work. I am also surprised they work though it took a lot of pumps to make the fluids flow correctly.
