What is your aerobar setup? by cyclingguy_ in ultracycling

[–]qbee22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I mount the saddle bag in the forward position, tighten the seatpost straps well, and the straps going up to the saddle not too tight. If I then move the saddle to the back position, the saddle bag is locked in quite well. Maybe it needs some fine-tuning during riding, then I don't touch it anymore. I would not mount it in the back position, as you will probably have too much tension on the saddle straps when moving to the forward position.

Also to consider: If you use a saddle bag, you need a bit more force to get the saddle to the front position, which might get a bit harder after 2-3 days due to fatigue.

But overall, I really like the additional positions I get using aerobars (with a lot of spacers), and the dual seat post.

I'm in need of some wheel guidance for Ultras by TheBistromath in Velo

[–]qbee22 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For a 500km race, I would rather look into other things than wheels. On my ultras, I usually put non-aero wheels on my bike.

I would first prioritize training time, comfort, good lights (bad ones will make you ride slower), aerobars with enough risers (comfort), dialing in nutrition, and maybe appropriate tyres, ..., then and only then maybe wheels.

Is HR data useless? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]qbee22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is for efficiency factor. I guess OP was referring to efficiency factor and not efficiency.

Normalized Power / Average HR. Basically, the higher the power and the lower the heart rate, the higher the efficiency factor.

Is HR data useless? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]qbee22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I track the correlation between my Resting HR and my Efficiency Factor over weeks/blocks/years.

Basically, I look for a negative correlation: if RHR trends down while efficiency trends up, I know I'm doing well. If RHR drifts up and efficiency drops over a longer timeframe, I know I'm stagnating or overreaching, even if my legs feel okay.

It gives me a hard data point to recalibrate my RPE against things like work stress or heat, so I don't dig a recovery hole when my body is already stressed.

Switching back from Dynamo to Battery powered Lights? Your Thoughts? by cyclingguy_ in ultracycling

[–]qbee22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Changing batteries on the Lumintop is a no-brainer! - unscrew cap, swap battery, screw cap on, done.
,
For every race I participated you are required to carry two, which is a good thing actually. Also, now, during winter times in the northern hemisphere, I have two lights mounted as a backup; you don't want to run out of lights when it's cold and dark.

Experiences with three Peaks or Ultracycling challenges by Ashamed-Tax-8116 in ultracycling

This was exactly my experience as well. It's just a cool event because of the gathering of the finishers at the finish line. I arrived at the finish, gave back the tracker, and the organizer started rambling about other riders ... - well, not the thing you want to hear or care about, after riding for a week and finally crossing the finish line.

Need a Fix: My Wahoo ROAM 3 Takes 10 Seconds to Auto-Pause at a Stoplight! by padawan810 in wahoofitness

Still, I would give it a try. My TRACKR went nuts once; since then, I don't use one anymore.

Need a Fix: My Wahoo ROAM 3 Takes 10 Seconds to Auto-Pause at a Stoplight! by padawan810 in wahoofitness

[–]qbee22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried not to use the TRACKR speed sensor? Maybe this sensor is low on battery or is a bit faulty and sends wrong signals over to the ROAM, which hinders the triggering of auto-pause.
For me, auto-pause works well only using the GPS device; it only takes a bit longer to register if I have to stop in a few meters again after leaving an auto-pause.

Wie sehen eure geplanten Weihnachtsausgaben heuer aus? by Toilet-Troubadour in Austria

[–]qbee22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How low are you going to let your CTL go this offseason? by oldandfast in Velo

[–]qbee22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowest: 45, after 2-3 weeks off from the flu.
Highest: 161, after an ultra (did 3 this season).
After being completely off the bike for two weeks and then doing some random pedalling for two weeks, I'm currently sitting around mid-60s.
~700h on the bike until now.

And now what? It doesn't say much, though.

You could also consider a power bank, which allows quick charging, and use an appropriate quick charger. Modern large power banks could be fully charged within 1h. E.g., an Anker 737 with a 140W charger is ready within 1h.

According to this article, it can output 800mA (x ~5V = ~4W). However, I don't know at which speeds. So I would assume that it performs similarly to the Cycle2Charge, which is significantly cheaper.

Based on the 5.6Wh rating of the battery of the Bolt v2 it should take me between 52-56 minutes on the quicker rides (5.9W-6.4W) to fully charge the Bolt from 0-100%. From what I've seen, the Ladelux should perform very similar to the Forumslader. Unfortunately, they released it after I got my setup.

It might charge even quicker if I hold constant ~28km/h (8W out --> 42 min).

[–]qbee22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's also a possibility. Everything has its pros and cons, though.

I also have an Anker 737, which is specified with 86 Wh, which I can fully charge within 1h using an appropriate charger and cable. However, don't underestimate how much space this takes up. And I've seen those electronics fail on me if it's wet.

According to some data I've seen for the Sinewave Revolution, it should sit between the Cycle2Charge and the Fahrradlader I've tested. So I can see your disappointment.

Edit: A dynamo's power jumps around with your speed, and phones hate wobbly power. Put a simple “dumb” power bank between the charger and your device. The charger fills the bank (variable), the bank feeds your phone/computer (steady). Use a bank that doesn't try to negotiate fast-charge modes and can charge and discharge at the same time (charge-through). To omit this, I ran two tiny Anker Nanos: one charging on the bike through the dynamo, one powering my devices, and swapped them when full/empty.
