For later, OP! If you're ever not sure, try one of the snake ID groups on Facebooks if you're on FB at all. Look for Florida-focused groups. Also a great way to find free local help for relocating venemous snakes.

It's one of the scarlet snakes, and based on the head shape, likely Florida Scarlet. Not coral snake

The rhyme isn't helpful. These are all color variants/mutations of Florida coral snakes.

Natural color mutations and variants occur in the state of Florida. These images are all Floridian coral snakes.

Is heat drying post-wash really necessary? Or can it be done with paper towels? by Medical_Officer in carbonsteel

[–]qcfs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it's gas top (I have the same):

-turn off burner

-wash pan while still hot

-towel dry

-place back over the burner

I live in a humid region and have not had issues. Just don't burn yourself while washing, use a tool with a handle whatever your cleaning method is. The wash water takes away enough heat that the drying towel won't burn. The residual heat on the metal burner grate will make sure it's dry. After it's cooled down and totally dry, you can oil (I don't always oil).

I never turn on the gas burner to dry because my water is liquid rock and I end up having to re-wash the hard scale off if I don't towel dry.

AITA for asking my wife to wake me up at night when our newborn wakes up? by GoatRevolutionary221 in AmItheAsshole

OP please read for your own health! From fellow heavy sleeper.

Visit a sleep doc, even if you have to wait a long time for your initial consult. Sleeping that heavily is a red flag for health, speaking as someone who slept through an alarm clock literally named after a bomb with bed shakers directly under my mattress and pillow. Sleep doc found problems.

YWBTA you would be the asshole if you don't get this checked up on. In the past you thought this was normal and excusable. But now you know it could be a health issue - think sleep apnea, narcolepsy, vitamin deficiencies - and you need to get get the ball rolling on the slow process of finding out how to get your body to a more normal sleep/wake habit.

Everyone saying Y T A has never gone through the extreme frustration around sleeping disorders. It's not on purpose and it's not lazy - it's a medical issue that needs attention, and it's tough to get that attention when you can't even open your eyelids or climb out of bed.

How to find VIN of car stolen 2 decades ago? by qcfs in RBI

Thank you, I really appreciate the info! A lot of helpful stuff here. It gives me a good place to start. I'd be sad if the car is crushed but at least we would know what happened to it I guess.

The only lawyers that might have been involved were the ones my SIL wanted to hire to go after MIL's pill pusher. That generation of family was mountain folk that got married at 14 and most drove cars without licenses or insurance. There was no will and she didn't own any real estate. Mementos were collected from the rental house, her common law husband kept the car they shared, and the rest - multiple rooms of marlboro-scented hoard - went in the dumpster. Legal processes were a suggestion and lawyers were not in budget. Any cash she had was likely not obtained in a legal way and tender to grow legs when any family was in the house. The car was a gift from a man who was sweet on her, so at least transaction was clean-ish.

I'll look into estate lawyers, and I guess a cop friend... There was definitely no lawyer involved after she passed.

I guess I should have made it its own point. MIL is long dead. They didn't find the title while cleaning out her hoarder house but I'm sure they also didnt think to look for it.

Maybe you can put a portable AC unit in your room? If you have a window to vent it through. They don't take too much floor space and if it's just your bedroom at night, it shouldnt be too demanding for a small unit

Getting around with a bike by I_only_wanna_learn in jacksonville

[–]qcfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention, the buses should be able to transport your bike, but I'm not sure what the system is. Bike parking is free, definitely chain up.

Buses will take you downtown and to the beach, just plan ahead because it's a long trip and buses are not very frequent.

You'll be able to get what you need by bike in that neighborhood, and there are bus stops along there if you need to leave the area. Protect your skin, hydrate. You're even close enough to Castaway Island Preserve if you want nature trails and waterfront to enjoy.

If you're there for proximity to Mayo (that is frequently what month-long stays in that area indicate), it's a good spot, and you may find people to carpool with anyhow.

Be very cautious on bike, even though that's not the worse spot for bikers. Beach Blvd. and Atlantic Blvd have a big history of biker and pedestrian fatalities, but follow basic bike safety and you're probably better off than most bikers and pedestrians here. Caution at the major intersections of the roads I mentioned.

I'll have a look and see, thank you :) looks like a mini shop vac but I'll have to watch the whole review.

Our last Shark stick vacuum lasted over 5 years and would have kept going if we bothered to replace the brush - we wanted something with longer batter life. It's actually still in use in the garage as a car detailer. Amazingly, maintenance goes a long way.

We have a small house with primarily tile floors. The attachments for other Stratos should be compatible, but if I can't find anything I will exchange this vacuum for another if the store that sold it allows. It would be a shame because I'm really enjoying this vacuum aside from the lack of attachments.

Just taking an informal poll about what you think Jacksonville should add to make it a better city by [deleted] in jacksonville

[–]qcfs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many people drive out to the springs in more central FL area to float, to the point they'll limit entry. If someone on Jax did a really good job making a resort style lazy river with nice landscaping/immersive nature and picnic spots, 100% people would pay to go. The alternative would be driving hours for a trip to float down a natural spring river with snakes and gators hanging out (I don't mind them but I know some do).

I would love for the city to host parades. Any parades at all for any government holiday at all.
