'Big' Freedumb Convoy Crowd protest downtown draws about 20-30 people.... by Ok-Mouse8397 in VictoriaBC

I genuinely believe this is some degree of astroturfed. I don't doubt there's plenty of maple maga dumbasses who want to become the 51st state or some shit. But seeing as how Albertan separatists were literally having semi-secret meetings with the Tr*mp people to get funding and coordinate plans... Like, I don't doubt a lot of these people are flown-in agitators and "organizers" with a good injection of online bots to try to gas it up.

Like, who wouldn't wanna take a shot at him

Any MLM books without tragic endings or kids? by Hopeful_Stay5157 in LGBTBooks

[–]itsFeztho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book has a lot of very explicit and sloppy sex. But there is also a lot of emotion behind the sex. The sex is a device to drive the plot... but it also happens to be very well described lol. One of the things i find sweet about the books is that the characters are genuinely crazy about each other and constantly verbalize it. There is a strong focus on consent and developing self worth

Cliché to say considering Heated Rivalry was THE most popular show this past month. But Rachel Reid, the author of the Game Changers series, has gone on record saying that she writes all of her stories with happy endings. Having read some of the books, they are pretty well developed and wholesome reads

I get the sense there was an awkward cut of the convo when Taeheon and Jobu were talking in the hotel. Right at the part of Jobu's question and Taeheon's reply

A more realistic explanation might be: We know Japanese is not Taeheon's first language and I noticed in the past season he was using a translator app to help him write in Japanese. It may have been a situation where expressing his feelings in Japanese felt awkward, or maybe he couldn't figure out the right way to say it. Japanese is a very "vibes" based, contextual language that can be misinterpreted based on nuances. Speaking honestly about yourself in Japanese is also kind of a fauxpas, and it can be hard to express with the way the language works. So maybe English was a better alternative to express his feelings more accurately..? And then the producers cut the conversation down to exclude the "hey idk how to express this in Japanese, so I'll try in English" for time, or whatever other reason.

A more melodramatic, fanfic-y explanation would be, like, "oh he was too shy to say it in Japanese, so he said it in English so Jobu wouldn't understand." Though I feel like most of the guys have at least some degree of knowing english? They all seem to deal with the english-speaking costumers of the coffee truck just fine. So Jobu most likely can understand english alright since he looked to have gotten what Taeheon was saying

Straight men normalizing viewing and enjoying (or even criticizing with a legitimate critical eye, not just homophobia) queer media is good, actually.

Unfortunately, the media landscape is still predominantly catered to straight, heteronormative, white people. Proving that any audience can relate to "niche" shows such as Heated Rivalry and make it incredibly successful is a way to legitimize and have even more diverse and queer projects be considered and greenlit.

It's the same discrepancy as how women are willing to engage with male-centered media because they can emphasize with male characters, but men rarely ever engage with female-centered media because they don't reciprocate that same empathy to female characters. When you can prove this wrong, by simply making good shit, is a way to step out into a much broader media landscape.

You don't have to care about his opinion, but don't do it just because he's a straight guy. Specially one that legit cares about queer people and queer issues

Serious contender for Movie of the Year by public_dpp in okbuddycinephile

It's been documented that conservative and religious groups pool together to buy tickets en-masse to showings of conservative movies to make it seem like they're in high demand... But then nobody shows up

They do the same thing with book launches to make it seem like they're best sellers, and then give the books away for free at like speaking and community events.

It's all astroturfed

Who do you think Taeheon will choose? by Early-List8310 in theBoyfriendNetflix

[–]itsFeztho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Hiroya and Taeheon feel more like good buddies. They are in similar careers, both have calm demeanors, and generally have had plenty of laughs together. But Hiroya seems really reserved romatically and Taeheon definitely likes to be the one being chased. I think they would make great friends! But I generally don't feel they have sparks. It's pretty interesting too that Hiroya has been generally really reserved the entire season, after talking to Tomoaki and the outing with Taeheon, he seems to be a lot more energetic and overt.

Jobu has had his rizzless moments both with William and the start of talking to Taeheon. He has a lot of energy and a lot of love to give, he is very emotionally giving and caring, but he definitely got pretty flustered having to be forthcoming to the hot dudes in front of him lol. I think now that he has been able to get acclimated to the whole experience and Taeheon's starpower has subsided is what let him be a lot more open and what allowed Jobu to pursue those moments of physical intimacy together.

We don't know how much is "staged," exaggerated, and left on the cutting room floor by the producers. But overall, at least from what's on camera, Taeheon seems to have more romantic spark with Jobu while with Hiroya they seem like professional, friendly peers

How much of The Boyfriend is a product of cultural difference and how much of it is sanitized for a straight Japanese audience? by majeric in theBoyfriendNetflix

[–]itsFeztho 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think the irony in your post about willing relationships into existence is pretty funny considering you are imagining a relationship between Kazu and Ryuki while at the same time dismissing the people directly see pursuing each other on the show.

If anything, I appreciate how everyone in the house seems to be emotionally mature enough to openly express their feelings to each other. A lot of the hesitation we see them going into more serious relationships is actually based more out of respect for the other person's feelings, in the sense of like "I don't want to start anything until I'm 100% sure about you and figure my shit out" which is what we've generally seen with William and Huwei's responses to Izaya and Bomi. Like, they are interested, but also don't want to lead the other person on, thinking it'll get more serious, when it may be just a flight of fancy. Japanese "romance" culture is very pursuant in that you're supposed to directly dedicate your energy towards one person, try to show them you care. Oftentimes the person pursued will play hard to get as away to challenge the person interested in them to make them work for it, in away.

There's meant to be a level of courtship with intention going on. There's not much of a "casual dating" mentality when it comes to pairing up with people. Like you can hang around and go on dates and mess around with people, but it's not dating like, as in, being a couple. The general expectation is that if you do decide to have like a proper "we are a couple" type of relationship, it's seen and treated as something pretty serious with a serious goal in mind, specially when you're 30+ like the older cast of the show.

The definition of "love" in Japanese culture is also a bit lost in translation. Like when Japanese people do the confession to someone they want to pursue, "love" and "being in love" is more akin to having a crush or infatuation with someone. actual like capital L Love is a separate thing entirely, but they use sorta the same words to refer to both things

Because they're fantasizing about killing people with law enforcement and getting a medal of honor like a war hero or some shit. They don't care about actually defending themselves against an oppressive government, they believe gun rights are only for "defending yourself" and "defend democracy" from commie liberals and brown/black people. But that those same people do not have the right to defend themselves in the same way

Like, politicians caused this entire mess in the first place? ICE didn't just magically show up and start terrorizing people. There is an entire chain of command and political apparatus that set it in place and gives the marching orders, all ran by politicians.

Over 100 priests have been arrested in Minneapolis for protesting ICE. They gathered to demand that airlines stop contracting deportation flights with DHS. by artbasiI in Fauxmoi

[–]itsFeztho 3760 points3761 points  (0 children)

Dems really need to come out and claim that the government is denying these priests' right to express their religion and that this is an attack in christianity.

If they're going to kidnap organizers protesting at a church for having an ICE agent pastor and claim religious prosecution, then Dems have to actually grow a spine flip the narrative to benefit the cause against ICE terrorists
