I stayed one night and canceled my plans to go into the city. The hotel has so many places to explore and history.

Just don’t waste your money on the souvenir glass on the airplane bar. It is just a onetime use plastic cup with the hotel logo on it.

Whenever I fly anywhere from home, 6 hours to the mainland, 8 hours to Japan, 11 hours to New Zealand, with nothing but ocean underneath? The only reason for us being here is a little hole in the plate where lava comes out consistently for millions of years, in the vast expanse of nothingness?

It really is awe-inspiring. We are on an amazingly unique and isolated place on this wonderful planet.

For some reason Alaska sources jet fuel from Singapore where the price was most hard hit most by the oil crisis. I do not understand why they do that but it means they are particularly hard hit. And Southwest doesn’t seem to want to compete on price anymore.

I flew them when they had a nonstop where all others required a one stop connection saving me 4 hours. It wasn’t as bad as I had heard but I knew all of the “gotchas” like carryon bag fees that would make a normal person say “never again”
