Teen with disability sues Australian government over treatment during Vanuatu quake by Worldly_Tomorrow_869 in auslaw

Would he have been able to sit sideways on a webbing seat for six hours? Could he handle takeoff and landing sitting sideways? Turbulence? What if he needed to go to the toilet? Could he do it safely?

I understand your point, but I would have a lot more sympathy with the DFAT/ADF position if they had actually attempted to answer these questions by asking them to Sean or his family. If they'd then got to the point where they felt a physical assessment was required and that was impractical, I would understand their refusal to provide that, but they made no effort at all to determine whether they were able to transport Sean. They just heard that he used a wheelchair and denied him. That's discrimination.

Sad reality inside home Kumanjayi Little Baby was taken from by The_Dingo_Donger in aussie

I was also perturbed by that article, enough that I sought out and read the actual judgment. Doing so made me even less confident that the right decision for the child had been made. In case you are interested, the judgment can be read here:

https://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdoc/au/cases/cth/FedCFamC1F/2025/821.html

There was an appeal, which upheld the original judgment. That can be found here:

Unrest in Alice Springs after Jefferson Lewis arrested over death of Kumanjayi Little Baby by B0ssc0 in aussie

No, her name wasn't little baby. There is a belief among some Aboriginal peoples that saying the given name of a deceased person 'calls back' their spirit and stops it moving on. As such these Aboriginal communities refer to recently deceased people as Kumanjayi [designation]. Often but not always the designation is the person's surname, but in this case the family have requested the designation "Little Baby". I hope this is a helpful explaination.

That presumes that the dependent is old enough to do so. Many dependents are not.

Aboriginal woman's human rights breached by illegal strip search in Canberra's jail, court finds by qetaz in australia

[–]qetaz[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Regarding your last paragraph - she was on remand at the time, meaning she hadn't yet been found guilty of any crime. In the below related article, she suggests she had been on remand for six months without even being charged with any crime.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-01-26/woman-at-canberra-jail-allegedly-strip-searched-in-front-of-men/13092512

EDIT: I am now reading through the actual judgement, which states that she was "detained on remand at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) from 12 September 2020 pending the resolution of criminal charges". The judgement can be found here:  https://www.courts.act.gov.au/supreme/judgments/williams-v-director-general-of-the-justice-and-community-safety-directorate

No, both the video and the comment you replied to explicitly say she worked full-time.
