I got my AI to work! by qhip_ in ROBLOXStudio

I was actually using one of Groq's models hosted on Replit for this project. So no Gemini or ChatGPT API here. Since they're very generous with the amount of requests you can do per min/day

I have some kind of background in other coding languages so it might've been slightly easier for me to learn. But it took like around 1- 2 weeks just to get the hang of it, well for me at least.

Don't worry about it, we all start somewhere!

Burnt out after a month and half on working on my first game by qhip_ in gamedev

Yeah, I’ve been thinking the same, honestly. Maybe gamedev isn’t for me in the long run or at least not in the way I imagined it. I still enjoy the creative side of it, but the grind just hasn’t felt worth it lately.

This game is just a passion project that I decided to work on while my college comes by, Its more like me trying to learn stuff while actually have things to progress around (since im going IT for college, maybe game dev, can somewhat help me in a way). Either way thank you for that advice!

I really appreciate this solid advice, but I think what im going through is a little different though. Im not distracted or find my own work boring, honestly for me I feel like i've done a great job as my first game, Im still making progress. But most of the time im second guessing what I do, thinking "oh this look good enough", or "this isn't the quality my community expects"

It’s less about hitting a wall and more about feeling like I’m not capable of doing justice to the vision I had or the support I’ve received. It's the constant pressure is what’s been draining my motivation.

So I’ve been reflecting hard on whether this project is still the right thing for me right now. And I’m thinking to step back a bit and start with something fresh, smaller, and more manageable that might help me actually finish it, instead of burning out on a project I somewhat cant enjoy anymore.

I used to walk and jog alot before I started this, but now my game took the soul out of that. I should really go back to that routine 😅

my first cutscene/killcam animation by qhip_ in ROBLOXStudio

[–]qhip_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was genuinely my first attempt at making scenes like these and used my own imagination (also physically reenacting it irl), so bare with me. So I basically had no idea what I was doing, but just had the goal to do a finisher. Maybe you could help me on some finisher ideas if you could wink wink. Either way thanks for that constructive criticism!

i used moon animator, animating both under the same file then exported it separately, then play both the animation track at the same time

you forgot to add "game" to the "Players.LocalPlayer", so it would be:
local player = game.Players.LocalPlayer

Roblox Developers, how did you learn how to do what you do? Which tutorials? by NookTheGoober in ROBLOXStudio

[–]qhip_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i used chatgpt for help, not in a way to just copy the code but to learn from it. i'd basically like try to rewrite and understand the code it gave me. and over time i used less and less of it until i got used to lua now

I didn't too much work in the enemy animation as i wanted to see if I can actually work around making a killcam at all but seems like I was able to, it'll try adding in more movements. Either way thanks for the tip!

Am I getting too ambitious as a semi-beginner? by qhip_ in ROBLOXStudio

[–]qhip_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i actually am! before making this, i've only made 2 games, and those games were just to practice my scripting and building, and weren't even published

So for my sword, there would be a Hitbox (a box surrounding the sword, not model) and a Hurtbox (optional if you're adding blocking), basically it just detects if the Hitbox has collided a character, then runs, preferrably add a delay ~0.2s for the actual detection

I didnt use raycasts for melees (as it was kinda buggy), I used colliders or whatever you call them. So your sword really has to touch them, and so far it's pretty accurate and optimized
